Notice on Facilities

A message from the Superintendent
District 303 Families,
Last week, we began a new school year sure to be filled with rewarding work in support of our students. This is always an exciting time to be in education!
While we celebrate the opportunity to serve students, I acknowledge there is a lot of hard work ahead for our District that will have far-reaching impacts. As I’ve told our staff and will extend to our families; we must embrace the hard work to achieve our goals, and we’ll only be successful when we do it together. Guiding that work will be our Strategic Plan and the Commitment Statement: Together Building Pathways to Excellence.
The Hard Work on Facilities
As you are aware, we have many facility changes ahead of us for the 2024-2025 school year. Over the past several months, District Administration has engaged with our Board, Wold Architects and demographer RSP & Associates to understand the challenges and identify solutions for our facility needs. Most recently, the Board approved a plan to reopen Fox Ridge as an elementary school, move early childhood to Haines, and relocate L&T and Transitions to Lincoln. Still to come is a topic that will impact each of our schools: boundaries. In order to fully meet space needs and equitably support students across the District, we must explore boundaries. So why is this work necessary, and how will it get done?
The Why
Our collective responsibility as a District is to serve students, and we must utilize every resource to ensure they have a safe, equitable and effective academic and social-emotional experience. To commit to this work is to live our Strategic Plan’s core values by creating environments where each student belongs, can persevere and achieve. With the right environments we can execute our strategic priorities through effective collaboration, enable instructional coherence, and foster a culture of dignity. We will accomplish this in three phases.
Stage 1A: Repurposed Sites
Urgent Needs | Address overcrowding, space inequity and capital project (maintenance) needs with the funds available to the District. Implementation: 24-25 SY
Stage 1B: Boundaries
Urgent Needs | Administration, the Board and RSP review the current boundaries, develop Boundary Guiding Principles, engage the community, and develop scenarios. Implementation: 24-25 SY
*Board meeting times may be subject to change. View current meeting schedule.
Stage 2: Capital Improvement Plan
High Importance | Continue review and implementation of needs within the long-range Capital Improvement Plan. Implementation: To be determined
Stay Connected
We are committed to keeping you informed throughout the facility planning process. This will include reminders and updates on key decisions and engagement opportunities.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Gordon
