REMINDER: Fourth Grade Clap Out Procedures
As our fourth graders' time at Nixon School comes to an end, we want to be sure to give them a proper send off. As a result, on Thursday, June 16, 2021 at 1:20 PM, we will host a Fourth Grade Clap Out. Following is information that will help the day to run smoothly. Any updates to this information will be emailed prior to Thursday.
Guests are encouraged to carpool, as parking will be challenging. No one will be permitted to park in the driveway of Nixon School, as this is where guests will gather to clap out our fourth graders. Please stand in the driveway, as the fourth graders will use the sidewalk. K-3 students will be located on the other sides of the building.
After our fourth graders are clapped out, the staff will have the fourth graders gather on the side of the building. There will be a series of cones set up... families should not go beyond these cones. Rather one member of the family can come to the cones and stand in a line by the respective teacher's name. The teachers will pair their individual students with the family members and keep record of these pairings.
All families are asked to please clear the front/side of the building no later than 1:35 so that we can prepare for dismissal.
If you have a younger child at Nixon School who you want to stand with you for clap out, you must come to the security vestibule between 1 and 1:20 to sign your younger child out. By signing your younger child out, please know that your child will not be able to re-enter the building after clap out, as we will be preparing for school wide dismissal.
Thank you in advance for helping to make clap out memorable for our fourth graders and for helping to ensure a smooth dismissal for our student body.
Summer Office Hours:
the Nixon School Main Office will be open:
Mondays through Thursdays
8:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
To ensure that office staff will be on site and available to assist, visitors are encouraged to call the Main Office at (973) 398-2564 prior to coming to Nixon School. Thank you.
Kindergarten Celebration... Rock n' Rollin' into the Summer!
Mrs. Lynch's Yearbook Letter to the Students of Nixon School...
Dear Nixon School Students,
As we look back on this school year, we can again take pride in knowing that we continually adapted to the many changes that were needed to ensure the health and well being of our entire community. We went from wearing masks and sitting in socially distanced seats to returning to ways of teaching and learning that we know and love - sitting in pods with our classmates, meeting in small groups with our teachers, working in centers and stations, partner reading, joining on the carpet as a classroom community for Morning Meeting and mini lessons… just to name a few.
The life lessons we have learned over the past few years are lessons that we will take with us forever. They are lessons that will guide us as learners, Bucket Fillers, and citizens within our community and beyond. A few of these lessons are captured below…
Be ready to go with the flow!
Education is your passport to the future.
Take time to appreciate the little things in life.
Happiness, appreciation, and heartfelt care can be found in the simplest of actions and words.
Everyone in our community is Nixon Strong… Roxbury Strong!
Bucket Filling happens everyday and everywhere!
Everyday heroes make a difference.
Smile…it is where peace begins.
Try… always try!
Take time to listen to the Words of Wisdom shared by others.
Hold high expectations for yourself and others.
Adaptability and resilience are at the core of who we are.
The power of one is within each of us… each of us has the power to make a difference.
Yet… it is a magical word that helps us to have a Growth Mindset.
Once a Nixon School Husky… always a Nixon School Husky.
Understand that you are somebody. If your mind can conceive it & your heart can believe it, then you can achieve it.
Caring about others is one way to “put your best paw forward.”
Always live in the moment!
Nixon School Rules!
Be respectful and responsible.
Every voice counts.
And one of the greatest lessons… always strive to BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE. Make yourself proud.
To our fourth grade students who are preparing to embark on a new journey at Lincoln Roosevelt School, I encourage you to keep in mind that your future is in your hands. Live life with hope, remain focused and determined, work hard, be a person of good character and even in the face of challenge, believe in yourself. You can do anything that you put your mind and heart to.
I wish each of you a relaxing, HEALTHY, and fun-filled summer. Take time to read, read some more and then read even more! Finally… Keep smiling, be respectful and responsible and be the best Bucket Filler you can be… today, tomorrow and always! Nixon School Rules!
Buckets Full of Smiles,
Mrs. Lynch
Preparing for the New School Year....
As we look ahead, families of students who have medications at school or medical action plans (i.e. asthma action plan, etc) are reminded to have updated doctors' orders and plans submitted to Mrs. Leonard, School Nurse, by the first day of school. The school's fax number is: (973) 398-3341. Forms can be found at this link.
As a reminder for the fall, please keep in mind that....
- Students are encouraged to have a water bottle / water for use throughout the day.
- There is a daily SNACK period in all classrooms and students should bring a snack from home.
- Peanut and tree nut snacks are NOT permitted in the classrooms for snack time; however, they are permitted in the cafeteria during lunch time.
- Any necessary updates regarding wellness in the community will be shared as available; however, everyone is encouraged to be mindful of symptoms and to rest at home rather than coming to school feeling under the weather or sick.
