Superintendent's Update
Happy Monday Cadets!
In a previous newsletter, I communicated how proud I was to be a Cadet. Today is another one of those days where I have immense pride in our girls' basketball team. They played in the second round of playoffs on Friday against the Taylor Ducks. It was a fast-paced game in which our Lady Cadets were behind by a few points throughout the game. They fought hard and never gave up. Instead, they persevered and ended the regulation time in a tie. In overtime, they won the game by eight points! There were many times that an average team would have given up, but our Lady Cadets did not. They dug in and kept their eye on the prize!
The Lady Cadets will play the Salado Eagles tomorrow night at Lake Belton High School at 7:30 p.m. A win tomorrow night will take them to the Regional Tournament. If you plan on going to the game, please come early! The Cadet boys’ basketball team will also be playing at Lake Belton High School tomorrow night. They are the first game in a Cadet doubleheader. The tipoff for the boy's game is at 6:15 p.m. against Lampasas. You can purchase tickets for the games by visiting this link: https://beltonisd.hometownticketing.com/embed/all?schools=19. Please come out to show your loud and proud Cadet spirit! With a win by either team, there will be another game scheduled for later in the week. As the information becomes available, we will share it on social media.
Due to the playoff basketball games scheduled for tomorrow night, the Lady Cadets will play the softball game today in McGregor. The baseball team will also play Hillsboro at home this afternoon. Unfortunately, we are not able to reschedule the soccer games tomorrow night against La Vega since they are district games.
The remainder of the week continues to be busy. The high school track teams will travel to Jarrell for a meet on Wednesday. The high school band will be attending a pre-UIL competition in Cameron. Finally, the high school powerlifting team will be in Leon for a competition. The end of the week and into the weekend does not slow down! The baseball team will be playing in the Waco tournament, and the softball team will play in the West tournament from Thursday through Saturday, according to their bracket. On Friday, the soccer teams will be playing Mexia at home. The week does not end there, as our Blue Angels dance team will be participating in their first competition of the year at Waxahachie High School on Saturday afternoon.
Last Monday was the regularly scheduled February CISD Board meeting. The Board of Trustees made a few significant decisions in the meeting. The first was to alter the CISD instructional calendar. The Texas School Safety Center shared information with central Texas school districts about the impact the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, will have in our area. You may have seen news stories about the number of people expected to visit Waco for this once-in-generation event for our area. The increase in visitors to our area will likely impact the highways with increased traffic. They also indicated that many people will pull to the roadside or find a place to park to view the event. With our campuses being so close to I-35 and Highway 77, it would be in the best safety interest of our students not to have school on this date. The McLennan County Sherriff’s Office also reports that we would like to experience delayed response time in case of an emergency. The district moved the full instructional day for ALL students to Friday, April 12, 2024. All students are expected to attend school on this Friday as a regular instructional day.
The other big decision made by the CISD Board of Trustees was to call for a bond in the May 2024 election cycle. The bond would be for a new elementary campus located on Cadet Circle near the Connally Primary and Connally Junior High campuses. More information will be coming your way soon!
The next regular board meeting is on Monday, March 25, 2024. It will be the fourth Monday of the month due to spring break delaying the posting of the March agenda. Agenda positions and meeting minutes can be found by visiting this link: https://www.connally.org/page/board-of-trustees and going to the Current Notices/Agenda/Minutes tab.
Amazingly, spring break is right around the corner! Connally’s spring break begins with an early release day on Thursday, March 7th. All students will return to school on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Enjoy the rest of the week as it begins to warm up, and feel like spring has arrived a little early!
