A Message from the Principal
Dear Eccles Families,
The Eccles Staff knows that we work in a wonderful community, but this week has been so much fun to experience as a staff member. Your expressions of appreciation put a pep in our step. The theme for the week, “Destination Appreciation” has been over the top. Not only has the food been delicious, the decorations, gifts, and care have been over the top. Our staff is so appreciative of the generosity, creativity, energy, and time that you all have given to show your appreciation. I am so grateful for your recognition of our wonderful staff.
We also have wonderful events coming up next week that you will want to know about. Read on!
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be open on Monday! Thank you to Marlena Adams, for her organization and for setting this up for our community, and thank you to all of the parent helpers who will help run it next week. Please see the attachments about the times the book fair is open.
Please don’t feel like you need to send your student to school with cash. Yes, the Book Fair supports our school and Library, but we also know that managing cash is a challenge for our youngest students. You will have the opportunity to attend the book fair the evening of May 17 during Camp Reads-A-Lot or, if you are able to, you can take your child directly after school. We have seen many tears from students who have lost money and we have many situations where students purchase items for their friends (of course, this is fine if that was the intention).
Special Person Day/Grandparent’s Day
We are so excited to connect with the special people in our students’ lives! Special person day is this Wednesday, May 17. Make sure to fill out the form so we know you are joining us and let us know early if you would like to eat our delicious turkey gravy and mashed potatoes. We need to collect $3.85 prior to the event to make the lunch line as efficient as possible. Of course, special people will want to join their kids for a 20 minute classroom activity and recess or visit to the book fair.
Camp Reads-a-lot at Eccles Elementary
As if May 17 wasn’t already going to be a blast, we are going to hold a family literacy event that evening from 5:00-6:30. This is going to be a staff hosted, camping themed event with the goal of connecting with our families and showcasing student reading and writing.
Families will take a self-guided tour of Eccles where you will view student writing throughout the hallways, play camping games, enjoy food in the cafeteria, visit the book fair, sing in a sing-a-long and receive a free book (Thank you Canby Education Foundation)! It is going to be a hoot, and your child has worked very hard on a literacy project to share at this event.
We appreciate you taking the time during this busy spring season to visit us and celebrate our school community.
Sincerely,
Kelly
