Dryden Basketball Alumni Game
The annual Dryden Basketball Alumni game will be held at Dryden High School on Saturday, February 4th. “The response has been tremendous!” said varsity coach John DelCampo. “The players’ spots filled up quickly, and we have gotten a great response from alumni that want to attend the game.”
Adding to the evening is the junior high players against the junior high parents game. The evening is about Dryden Basketball's past, present, and future. “It is really an amazing evening. The future of Dryden Basketball plays in the junior high game. The current players are referees or other jobs for the evening,” said DelCampo. “Then we get to see the past with the alumni.”
The junior high game begins at 6:00 with the alumni game following at approximately 7:15. Doors open at 5:30. Cost is $5 with all proceeds going to the Dryden Basketball program. This is its biggest fundraiser.
There is a draft of the alumni with former players Dave Reynolds and Marcus Leija selecting for their teams. Team Reynolds consists of Jack Kaplan, Nate Schenkel, Steve Holdwick, Craig Kreger, Brady Czape, Zack Lemke, Jason Blasius, Geary Priehs, Jaylen Rodriguez, Austin Dunnigan, and Sam Peyerk. Team Leija consists of John DelCampo, Joey Savarino, Ronny Hudson, Merrick Maris, Jared Czape, Brad Marsh, Ethan Ledford, Hunter Gall, Josh Schornak, and Nick Dunnigan.
Last year Team Leija defeated Team Reynolds by a score of 73-71. “It will be totally different this year,” said Reynolds. “The bragging rights are too much to lose again.”
In addition to the games, there are contests throughout the evening with chances to win great prizes. The event has become more popular each year with former cheerleaders and other alumni attending. “More and more people are finding out about it. It’s like a reunion for not only basketball but for different graduating years,” Julie Nash, Dryden cheerleader 1996.
To complete the evening, there is a reception held at Pine House Kitchen and Bar in Dryden. “They have been very supportive of us. They are donating a portion of each tab to the basketball program,” said DelCampo.
