Walkersville High School
Message from the Principal
Dear Walkersville Community,
We have lots to celebrate here at WHS this week. Congratulations to our Girls Soccer Team who won the small school CMC title last weekend. Additionally, I would like to thank and congratulate Wyatt Gearhart and Hannah Koonce. They are both Seniors who have accompanied me to Rotary this month. They did a wonderful job representing WHS each week. Lastly, a big congratulations to Kaylie Schwai. Kaylie has been selected as the WHS representative for the Martin Luther King Jr Award winner this year. She will be celebrated in January.
With term 1 being over now, we look ahead to term 2 and all the excitement it brings. We have many teams in the playoffs right now... Go Lions! Take advantage of the fresh start for the term, and as always, please reach out if there is anything we can do to support your children.
Sincerely,
Dr. Stephanie Ware

Reminders about Playoff Games
Tickets for upcoming games are $6 and only MPSSAA passes work.
With Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) playoffs beginning this week, FCPS would like to remind everyone of our sportsmanship expectations whether attending a competition in Frederick Country or at another school or venue throughout Maryland.
As FCPS and our 11 high schools have continued to promote, the MPSSAA released a Sportsmanship Plan of Action illustrating the need to improve sportsmanship and respect for all in attendance at athletic events and detailing the collaborative actions all 24 school systems are taking in response. The MPSSAA Sportsmanship Action Plan includes three pillars as the basis for statewide expectations to provide a standard of sportsmanship. The three pillars are Creating Welcoming Environments, Respect, and Accountability for Actions. Under these three pillars, school-based athletic administrators can focus efforts on embracing a positive culture for the management of contests and the conduct of their school's athletic community.
In reference to Accountability for Actions, the state has issued increased consequences for egregious behaviors during regional and state athletic contests. Egregious behavior is being defined as:
- Fighting;
- Physical or verbal personal attacks directed towards an official, coach, student-athlete, spectator, or school personnel;
- Use of racial, ethnic, homophobic or other derogatory or discriminatory language, slurs or practices.
Any ejections under this category have been elevated to a minimum of a two contest disqualification from the current state tournament, next sport season or the succeeding year's tournament based on the circumstances of the situation. As recommended in the plan of action, FCPS has adopted these same consequences for all regular season contests.
We don't pretend to hide our competitiveness in FCPS and strive to win championships on the field and court each year. However, win or lose, we want to leave that contest assured that our school, community and FCPS were represented with pride and class. Whether it is on the field or in the stands, let's hold each other accountable in creating welcoming environments, being respectful guests and always demonstrating good sportsmanship.

Federal Impact Aid
Dear Parents & Guardians:
Tomorrow your child will receive a paper copy of the 2023 Federal Impact Aid survey for you to complete and return to the school by Friday, November 3, 2023. As was stated in the FindOutFirst email sent by FCPS recently, the purpose of the survey is to collect information from families regarding military service and/or residence or employment on federal property. The Federal Impact Aid survey is administered every year but this year the survey is in paper form.
Why is it important to complete the Federal Impact Aid Survey?
Federal Impact Aid is a Federal education fund that reimburses school districts for lost revenue and additional costs associated with the presence of tax-exempt Federal property including military installations, Federal low-rent housing facilities, national laboratories, and other Federal buildings and lands, etc. Frederick County Public Schools may receive financial assistance from the Federal Government (under Public Law 81-874) based on the number of pupils whose parents/guardians are active in the military or whose parents live or work on federal property in Maryland.
If a parent/guardian is active in the military or lives/works on federal property and has multiple students in Frederick County Public Schools, a survey must be completed for each student.

Supervision of Younger Children at WHS Events
This is a reminder that while we love to see our whole community supporting our Lions, children are not permitted to be unsupervised during events. We want our events to be safe, orderly, and allow everyone to focus on cheering our students on. Please ensure that younger children are with adults at all times when visiting WHS. Thank you.
