Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.
Snapshot News:
Year 12 Nottingham University Trip
Some of our Year 12 students went to the University of Nottingham this week. They had a tour of the Mathematics and Physics faculties. They are pictured standing in front of Albert Einstein's blackboard! On their way back, they stopped at Woolsthorpe Manor (Isaac Newton's birthplace) and saw the infamous apple tree.
Year 8 France Residential
Year 8 have had a wonderful trip to France this week. They had a tour of a chocolate factory, visited a WW2 museum, had a morning filled with kayaking, visited a theme park and made visited an aquarium.
Year 9 Germany Residential
Year 9 have had an exciting time in Germany this week. They started off the week by getting their step count up, when they visited the Rhine Tower, they visited a theme park, stopped at Schloss Benrath Castle, visited Essen Cathedral and learnt about life as a miner at the Rurh museum.
Stars of the Week:
- Mrs Reynolds has said well done to Kelechi, Annabelle and Paris (9C) who represented the school at the County School Challenge final.
- Miss McGrath has nominated 7TA for taking part in a brilliant class debate on the use of dolphins by the navy. Fantastic research and outstanding presentations were done by the entire class.
- Mrs Brown has nominated the Year 12 English Language class for their hard work on their independent language investigations and have done a brilliant job so far. They have all chosen their own language focus to investigate and have made great progress. Mrs Brown is a very proud teacher!
- Mr Harley wants to congratulate Ana (8S), Tamiska (8T) and Charlize (8T) who have baked consistently well during the trials of CTS' Bake Off. They have made it to The Great Brooke Weston Trust Bake Off final and will be competing against the other schools on Tuesday 17th July 2018.
- Mr Lee says well done to the Year 8 and Year 9 mathematicians with their work on code-breaking this week.
- Mr Godfrey nominates the students in Year 9 Super Physics trip who represented the school at the annual competition run by the Institute of Physics. They were a credit to the school and made it to second place.
- Mr Lee congratulates Tamara (8C) for an informative presentation on Alan Turing.
- Miss Connellan would like to say thank you to Amelia (7SW), Neave (7CO), Thomas (7CO) and Finlay (7TE) who provided wonderful literacy support for the visiting Year 6 students.
- Mr Gourlay says well done to Ashley (8S) for his excellent commitment to achieving his Bronze award in the Duke of York iDEA program.
- Miss James would like to thank our students who helped today during a very busy transition day - Chris (10S), Rowan (7TE), Mya (7ST), Sophie (7ST), Marshall (7TE), Emily (7TE), Jasmine (7ST), Niav (7TE), Rachel (7TE), Andrew (7CO), Kornelia (7ST), Oscar (7TA) and Kara, Kayleigh and Malika in Year 12.
Staff:
- Mrs Arnold would like to thank all the staff who accompanied Year 8 and Year 9 this week on their residentials - Mr Rogers, Mrs Ferns, Mr McRae-Smith, Ms Tosh, Miss Watt, Mr Cooper, Miss Fenner and Mr Cox.
- Thank you to all staff who have supported students on trips and visits this week. It takes a lot of organisation but has been worth it – Mrs Walpole, Mr Horne, Miss McGrath, and Mr Chatfield.
- Thanks to Miss Moore for supporting the students at the County Schools Challenge on Monday evening and to the students who came to support.
- Miss James would like to thank our new PE teacher, Miss Williams, who came to support transition day to welcome her new tutees.
- Well done to our staff who have just qualified as first aiders and are joining the school first aid team - Mr Macleod, Mrs Winfield, Mrs Hegarty.
- Well done to our staff who have been accepted onto the Brooke Weston Trust Leadership Academy, Mr Gourlay, Mrs Prior, Miss Longhurst, and Mr Rogers.
Celebration of Student Work:
STEM Models
This week in STEM, students could choose to make models of theme parks or outdoor adventure playground. Pictured is a model that was inspired by the Go Ape experiences.
War Art
Year 8 have been studying war art. Pictured are matchbox sculptures that they made in art which was inspired by the topic.
Psychology Timeline
Year 12 psychologists have worked collaboratively to produce a 'Psychology through time' display.
Attendance Matters
Every single day a student is absent from school equates to a day lost of learning. At Corby Technical School we pride ourselves in maintaining excellent attendance. Our target is to achieve and maintain a whole school attendance of above 96.5%. We will be giving you weekly updates on our whole school attendance, the tutor group and house who achieved the highest attendance this week.
Whole School Attendance
Whole school attendance (excluding Year 11) this week is 94.87%. We are up from last week, but still not reaching our target.
Best Tutor Group
Best tutor group this week is 8C with 99.2%, well done to Mr McRae-Smith and your tutor group.
House Winner
C house are the house winners this week with 95.7%. Well done Cayley and Coleman.
Reminders:
Sports Day is on Tuesday, 17th July. Parents/carers are welcome to attend, there will be a designated parent/carer area. You may want to bring your own picnic blanket or chair. The even begins at 13:15pm.
