A Note from the Principal
Dear Jefferson Families,
We are thrilled to report that students are working to settle into the rituals and routines of a new school year! We have seen new friendships being made and "old friends" reconnecting from previous years. The positivity in our hallways and classrooms is inspiring and energizing!
We are eager for a fantastic year ahead and look forward to partnering with you in the service of our students. We seek to focus on the whole child and support all aspects of their well being as we return to school. We will also be very deliberate in supporting students' connections and sense of belonging. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, our counselors, or Mrs. Murray and me if there is something we can do to support their transition into this new school year.
Best Regards,
Stefani Wasik, Principal

Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
As a reminder, there is no school on Friday, September 1, 2023 and Monday, September 4, 2023 in observance of Labor Day.
If your child is a CAR LOOPER, please be sure that s/he can buckle and unbuckle their seatbelts independently. If they are not able, please pull forward and into the lot to help. Please do NOT exit your vehicle while in the car loop for safety reasons and to avoid a backup in the loop.
Finally, please note that the main entrance from Washington Street, known as Lord’s Way, has two lanes. Cars that are lining up to drop off or pick up their children will stay to the LEFT. Buses and vans will stay to the RIGHT. If you are driving your child to/from school, you will enter the car loop (around the main parking lot). When driving through the loop, please do not pass other cars.
Check It Out!
We have a new Book Vending Machine at Jefferson! Students will recieve tokens during their birthday weeks and other special times throughout the year. Tokens can be redeemed for a book from the Book Vending Machine. Many thanks to our PCC and Classes 2020 and 2022 for this amazing gift to our school community!
Specials Cycle 2023/2024
This year, elementary schools will pilot a 6-day cycle. Each class has one special per day and six different specials during the 6-day cycle: Art, Music, Physical Education (PE), Health, Library, and Instructional Technology (IT).
Instructional technology will be a new class for all students K-5. The instructional technology teachers will utilize the Ellipsis Education curriculum to provide instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Digital Learning and Computer Science Standards. We look forward to sharing more information about all unified arts classes as the year progresses. Please have your child wear sneakers on their PE/Health days. (Alternatively, your child is welcome to keep a pair of sneakers in their cubby at school.) Your child’s teacher will provide the schedule for their class.
Please click here for a full calendar (including Days 1-6 noted in blue) and see below for upcoming dates!
Breakfast & Lunch
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that school districts will continue to provide free meals to all interested students, regardless of status. This means that every student in the Franklin Public Schools is entitled to one free breakfast and/or lunch each day, if interested. Students will be charged for any second meals or a la carte items including a la carte milk or water. Breakfast will be served as a grab-and-go option.
School lunch menus will consist of the "main" menu and several other options. Menus and other information can be found on Franklin Public Schools' Titan Website. Students do not need to pre-order lunches but should be aware if they are getting breakfast and/or lunch at school or bringing lunch in from home.
Bus Information
Bus routes will be posted on the Transportation Website. Bus passes will be distributed to students at school on the first day. Students will not need a bus pass on the morning of August 30th to ride the bus. Important information regarding bus transportation can be found on the district website. For questions, please call the transportation office at (508) 553-4815.
Weekend Backpack Program
Jefferson has partnered with the Franklin Food Pantry to provide food to students who might benefit from this support. Together, we will gather, package and provide bags of food for students during the school year to take home over the weekend. Students who participate in this program are kept confidential to appropriate school personnel. Names are not shared with food pantry personnel.
The packaged food will be sent home on Fridays and this will continue through the end of the school year. This is a free program for all participating families. The backpacks will contain a variety of child friendly foods. Some examples are granola bars, oatmeal, SpaghettiOs, shelf stable milk and Ritz crackers. The backpacks will be distributed to students in a discreet and caring manner.
If you are interested in receiving the Backpack or have questions about the program, please call Elizabeth Quinby, at (508) 541-2130 Ext 1016 or email quinbye@franklinps.net You may also print and sign this letter and return it to the School Nurse.

Jefferson 2023-2024 PCC Involvement
As many of you know, the PCC, or Parent Communication Council, is a group of parent volunteers that work with the staff and administration of the school to enrich students' educational experience. This is done through fundraisers, events, and activities. The PCC fully funds field trips for every student at Jefferson, holds Book Fairs, hosts Cultural Enrichment Assemblies for the children, and sponsors the Artist in Residence Program each year. Please visit their website linked here, follow the Jefferson Elementary PCC Franklin, MA Facebook page, or connect with the Board at jeffersonpccfranklin@gmail.com to learn more!
