Message from the Superintendent

Thank you for being such wonderful community partners. I speak for all our students, teachers, and staff when I say that your faith and trust in the El Monte City School District was paramount in helping us successfully navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Distance Learning, reopening, and so much more. I wish you all a wonderful Summer Break!

Dr. Maribel Garcia

HAPPENINGS HAPPENINGS

Congratulations to Gidley School who just earned Lighthouse Status for their Leader in Me program! Gidley becomes the fourth school in the District to earn Lighthouse status and joins Frank Wright School in earning the distinction this year!

EMCSD Celebrates Retirees and Staff

After months of waiting, the El Monte City School District was finally able to formally recognize their newest retirees and various staff members for their years of service to the District. Each year, the District, in association with the El Monte Teachers Association would recognize retirees at an end of year dinner. Our employees being recognized for their years of service would also be acknowledged during a January Board of Education meeting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both traditions were put on hold until a couple weeks ago. The District recognized 10 retirees along with 196 employees as part of their Service Pin Ceremony. Pins are awarded to staff for every five years they worked within the District. Combined, the district celebrated over 3000 years of service between our retirees and service pin recipients.

Myth: I don't need the vaccine if I already had COVID-19

Facts

We don't know how long people will have immunity after getting COVID-19.

There are also a few well-documented cases of people getting COVID-19 twice.

Even if you had COVID-19 and recovered, you will benefit from vaccine.

Myth: The vaccine will give you COVID-19

Facts

Current vaccines don't include the virus in any form - no live virus, no weakened virus, no dead virus. You cannot get the disease from the vaccine.

About half the people who participated in the trial reported mild side effects for a few days, including a sore arm.

These side effects are from the vaccine developing the antibodies and typically last for 1-2 days.

Pandemic-EBT Benefits Will Continue

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved the Pandemic-EBT 2.0 state plan for school-aged children. There is no application for the P-EBT, and eligible children will automatically receive P-EBT benefits starting in September. The new P-EBT website is set to launch June 22 and will include updates, partner materials, FAQs and more. To prepare for P-EBT 2.0, eligible families with school aged children should make sure that their school has their most current mailing address on file.

Children eligible for P-EBT extension benefits:

  • Previously received P-EBT benefits for the 2019-20 school year;
  • Are attending a California K-12 school for the 2020-21 school year; and

If you have questions about your P-EBT benefits, call the P-EBT Helpline at (877) 328-9677.
