Through quality education our students will achieve personal success
The Telluride School District will support all students in striving for their
highest potential through quality academics while addressing individual needs
within a safe and healthy community.
COMMUNITY FORUM FOR INCLUSION STATEMENT
The message below may look familiar, as our previous two attempts to bring Dr. Selena Sermeno to our district this year were postponed because of illness and then weather. This will now take place this week, and with everything else going on the notice is short. Dr. Sermeno’s discussion in the TMHS Library will take place at the same time as District Accountability, unfortunately.
This past fall the TSD community began discussions as we became aware that students had experienced incidents of racism, anti-Semitism, and homophobia. As part of ongoing efforts to make every student in our community feel welcome and included, we began the work of creating an anti-hate/inclusion statement for TSD. Next week, as part of this work, Selena Sermeno, an educational psychologist who has worked with our schools in the past, will be working with staff, students, and the community to gain input and language to start to draft a statement that will eventually be adopted by the board. She will be in our schools on April 24th & 25th, following a schedule that will be multiple opportunities for staff and students to provide input.
In addition, we will have a community forum for parents and community members who are interested in attending. It will take place at 5:15pm in the Telluride Middle/High School Library on Monday, April 24th. Please feel free to join that discussion.
I want to thank all of you for your support and understanding as we made our way through last week, and continue to make our way through the following weeks, following the loss of Lorrie Gardner.
Sincerely,
John Pandolfo
Superintendent
