Core Counseling Curriculum
School counselors support students’ academic success through proactive classroom lessons prioritizing the three counseling domains: academic, career and social emotional. The focus of the 2016-2017 school year is to create a comprehensive Core Counseling Curriculum for all SPPS students. Student Learning Targets were developed for each grade and data are collected quarterly. The Core Counseling Curriculum is a Tier 1 intervention for all students.
Small Group and Individual Counseling
School counselors support students’ academic success through small group intervention (Tier 2). Professional Learning Communities (PLC) are focused on interrupting predictable outcomes for identified students. Second Cycle PLCs are focused on improving interventions for positive outcomes on important issues ranging from academic progress, attendance, behavior, growth mindset, organization and time management. Significant growth in credit attainment, GPA, days attended, and time spent in class was shown across grade levels.
School counselors provide Academic, Career and Social Emotional support to students through individual counseling sessions. The Counselor Contact Log through Campus will show the number and types of individual counseling sessions disaggregated by grade, race and topic. Year to date, counselors have provided over 99,000 individual and group counseling sessions.
