Hello Students and Parents! Spring Break has started and I just wanted to say have fun and take the break that is much needed! Students, I will see you when you guys get back from Spring Break.

Parents! We are at the final stretch, the 3rd quarter had just ended and you students should be receiving their report cards when they come back from spring break. In this news letter I will just be going over what the students have learned and what they should be looking forward to in the near future.

Also parents there will be an open house on April 2nd starting at 4pm ending at 8pm. This can be a great opportunity for parents to ask teachers question in person and learn about what their child is learning. As well as get a run down of what the end of the school year testing will look and how your child can prepare for the tests and how you can help.

This week in class we just wrapped up learning about World War II. We learned about the major battles at the end of the war such as the Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Iwo Jima, Battle of Okinawa. We also took a close look at the creation of the atomic bomb and how the U.S. used it and what part of Japan they used it on. Finally we talked about the surrendering of the axis powers.

When we get back from break we will start looking at life after the war and began talking about the internal issues the U.S. was having. We will also start learning about the Cold Wars and the Vietnam War as well.

*In addition, if students are having a hard time with the lesson and need more help before, after or during free periods, I can set up a tutor session with me and the student, or I can have another student help. Just contact me so we can proceed forward. Thank you!

There will be no assignments while we are break. However I will open up an options for students to do an extra credit assignment that they can do during the break. This assignment is a movie review.

Movie Review Extra Credit Assignment:

Students will watch a pre-approved movie about a historical event or a person. This movie can be about a current event as well. After watching the film students will write a 1-2 page review about the film. In this review students will have to include a summery of the film, the quality of the film, and information about the historical event or person the covers.

There is a class trip coming up soon that students will be more than welcome to come, this trip will be at Okinawa Memorial Peace Prayer Park. Since we just finished learning about World war two, this will be a great opportunity to go to a museum built on the aftermath of World War II in Okinawa, Japan. I have already handed out to students the permission slips to give to you parents.

When: April 29, 2024

Time: Buses will leave the school at 8:30am and we will be back by 1:30pm

Where: Okinawa Memorial Peace Prayer Park

Admission fee:

Children- 100 yen

Adults- 240 yen

*Students will bring their own lunch or bring their own money to buy their lunch at the museum.

If you would like to volunteer to chaperone, please contact me, or write it on the permission slip that was sent out. This could be a great opportunity for parents and their children to learn about the Okinawa history together.

Incase of rain please bring rain coats and umbrellas, it is rainy season after all!
