Take Home Tuesday
April 11, 2023
Updates from the Principal's Office
Dear Sward Families,
Our IAR testing began today... if your child is in grade 3, 4, or 5, please ask them about it :) They worked very hard to show what they know!
The Illinois Assessment for Readiness begins next week. As with any important test, please remind your child to try their very best on every question they encounter. They have learned so much and should be very proud to demonstrate what they know on this test. You can help at home by ensuring they have a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. Attendance is important, so if your child is healthy enough to be at school, please send them.
Your partner in education,
Mrs. Candy Kramer
St. Jude Coin Drive
One of our very own teachers, Miss Lettiere, will be running to fundraise for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Kindness Club and Friendship Club have teamed up to create layered incentives to celebrate when we have reached specific milestones. From spirit days to extra recess, our students got very creative! Ask your child and they will be able to tell you all about it. Please send in spare coins to help St. Jude.
Returning Student Registration
Please watch your email inbox tomorrow for a message from D123 about Returning Student Registration. Be sure to follow the instructions given in the message to complete the steps of the process in Skyward Family Access. Those of you who know your child will NOT be returning to D123 for the upcoming school year, please contact the Sward main office at (708)423-7820 to provide information for transfer papers to be prepared.

Thunderbolts Reading Incentive
In a past Take Home Tuesday, your child brought home this reading tracker. For each 30 minutes of reading, your child can color in one dot as they make their way around the bases. Once they have completed coloring in all of the dots, they will receive a voucher to receive 2 complimentary tickets to attend a Windy City Thunderbolts baseball game on either Wednesday, June 28 or Sunday, July 2. If more than 2 tickets are desired, you will have the ability to purchase additional tickets at a discounted rate of $5 each. The reading trackers are due to me by May 1. The sooner you return the reading tracker, the sooner you will be able to submit the voucher for your tickets. Happy Reading!
World Day for Cultural Diversity
Please come join us to "travel" around the world on May 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for our 2nd annual World Day for Cultural Diversity Family Night Celebration. Click here for additional information. We hope you will join us to explore customs and countries, taste foods, enjoy performances, and have fun! We invite all families to host (or share host) a table to represent your cultural heritage. A Note from Nurse Dina
Attention parents: Strep throat is on the rise in our school community. Please be mindful that strep is very contagious so it is important to keep children home from school if they are feeling ill. Strep is spread through respiratory droplets. Breathing in the infected droplets or touching a surface with infected droplets then touching nose, mouth or eyes can cause someone to become sick. Strep can have many symptoms, and some children present with the illness differently. Symptoms include fever, pain with swallowing, swollen glands and or tonsils. There might also be white patches, pus filled pockets or tiny red spots on tonsils. With strep throat some individuals may have a stomach and headache as well as vomiting and a rash. Be mindful that you might have most of the symptoms or only one. Going to the doctor and getting tested for strep if symptoms present is very important. Untreated strep can cause complications so getting the correct treatment is imperative.
