Howe Public Schools

For all NEW enrollees, please make plans to bring the following required enrollment documents to the High School and Elementary office as soon as possible: copy of CDIB (if applicable), birth certificate, social security card, proof of immunizations, and for all new students a copy of the student's transcript from their previous school (if available). Proof of residency (see enrollment forms for more information.) Foreign Exchange students must provide a copy of their J1 student passport.

7th-12th Grade Competitive Athletes: Please download and complete the OSSAA Eligibility Record Form and return to Mr. Brooks Cawhorn at your earliest convenience and prior to the beginning of the school year. Copies of this form are available at the Elem or HS school offices.

Parents who do not have a PowerSchool parent account for enrollment can pick-up their account creation letter at your child's school office during office hours or during Back To School Night.

For parents who are unable to login to their account due to unknown username or password, an onsite help session will be available during the Back To School Open House on Tuesday, Aug 15 between 5 - 8 pm in the Technology Building

If you do not have access to a computer or cell phone, a paper copy of enrollment is available at both offices. Thank you to those who have completed online enrollment, and thanks to everyone for your patience.

If your student is a new transfer student to Howe Public Schools and their pre-registration enrollment has been accepted, be sure to stop by your child's school office to complete a transfer request form as soon as possible, if you have not done so already. All new students need to bring the following items to the offices also.

1. Child's birth certificate

2. Proof of immunizations

3. Copy of child's CDIB (if applicable)

4. Student legal name change and/or changes in parental custody if changes have occurred

5. Proof of residence if you live in the district

This year we have selected the theme "Growing, Building, and Learning Together" which will focus on building skills and celebrating milestones on the roadmap to "becoming a lifelong learner." Check out this article, "How to Show Your Kids the Importance of Lifelong Learning" from Study.com. With this theme, we will continue to foster curiosity, exploration, and problem solving in our classrooms through learning experiences that promote experiment, innovation, and inspire a love of learning.

You will see this theme throughout the school year and at our Back To School Open House on August 15th as we "build the path" to a new school year and showcase the ways we will travel together as learners. We are excited to fuel the sparks of lifelong learning in all our students, and identify ways to ignite our students' passions, creativity, and energy for the new school year!

A Howe High School Senior 2024 Meeting for students AND parents is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium. Howe Public Schools' faculty want to ensure that your son/daughter has a successful Senior year, and our goal is to stand shoulder to shoulder with you throughout the next ten months leading up to the Graduation Ceremony on May 5, 2024. In this meeting, we will discuss your questions and concerns, and we will provide a "what to expect" roadmap for the 2023-24 school year. We strongly encourage both parent and student to attend. Please complete the information below so that we are better prepared to meet your needs during the Senior meeting. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Howe High School students or parents can login to the PowerSchool parent/student portal to see their class schedule. A printed schedule will be available to students on the first day of school. Students can pick up their PowerSchool student logins from their English Teacher during Back To School Night. Please note: All class changes will be addressed the first two weeks of school. More information on how to request a schedule change will be shared with students on the first day of school.

Middle School parents and students are invited to attend one of two meetings scheduled for 5 pm OR 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria.

It's a Book Bonanza! During Open House, drop by the HPS Library and browse through our used book sale! Hardbacks will be $1.00 and paperbacks will be .50. Your purchases will help our library add new materials for students of all ages to enjoy!

Parents & Students: We want to 💡light up our social media stream with your first day back to school photos! Be creative and show us how your students are ready for their journey in the new school year!" Tag description of photos with student's first name and grade level using #HPSLions #BackToSchool on Facebook or Twitter and you just might see your child's photo on our social media pages!

To be eligible for services through the Johnson O'Malley (JOM) program at Howe Public Schools, students must be enrolled in the district, and parents must:

• Provide the student's tribal membership card, and/or parent's card & child's state-issued birth certificate.
  

Once a child is verified by the JOM office staff, the following are services that the JOM program offers to Howe students:

• Educational Supplies ($30 Visa Card)
• Academic Incentives per Semester
• Fees/Registrations
• Cap and Gown Fees for Kdg, 8th Grade and HS
• Cultural Awareness Field Trips and In-School Activities and Programming

$30 school supply Visa cards are available for all verified Howe Johnson O' Malley Indian students (EC - 12th grade). Supply cards can be picked up at the Technology Building! A parent/legal guardian signature is required at time of pick-up and the student must be a verified JOM student.
