February 2023
A message from the principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
February is "I Love to Read" month. Please encourage your child/children to read, read, read throughout the month. Strong reading skills promote high achievement. Conferences are coming soon. Thank you to parents/guardians who have already scheduled a time and a reminder to those yet to schedule. We offer in-person and virtual conferences and alternative conference times and dates for those parents/guardians who need additional options.
Stay Warm,
Mrs. Ray
Thank you everyone for coming to our Love to Read kickoff! Please remind your students to read every night.
The safety of all students is the first priority when determining if schools should stay open in extreme winter weather.
The decision to close school is a serious one, and it affects many working families who would have to take a day off of work or find day care on short notice.

Volunteer news
Thank you to all the families who joined us at this year's Silver Skate. It was a fun night, and all the work that went into it behind the scenes was very appreciated. Some of the high school volunteers from that night even joined us again for Camp Read-a-Lot!
If you know a grandparent, community member, or high schooler who would be willing to work with our students, have them sign up! It makes a huge difference in a child's confidence when adults show they value education enough to give something as precious as time. We really appreciate all the support our families give to Franklin.
K-Skillbuilders
Help Kindergartners build literacy and math skills by becoming a K-Skillbuilder. A 2-hour training is required and provided. The activities are easy to follow, and it really helps our students grow.
Reading Helpers
Our First Grade team has been benefiting from Reading Helpers, but we need more helpers! Similar to K-Skillbuilders, we ask that you commit to 45-60 minutes once a week, for a minimum of 3 weeks at a time. The students love the extra attention!
A message from the nurse
Hearing and vision screenings were completed last week for 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders. Kindergarteners also had their hearing tested. You will receive a phone call from the school nurse if there were any concerns for your student.
Students should enter and exit the car on the passenger side of the car for safety reasons. Also parents should not block the driveways of the residences on Wingfield Ave. And lastly, make sure that all cars have their students' pink paper with their names visible so staff can see them.
If you need to change the way your student goes home, please call the office at 763-506-2600 before 3:30pm. For the safety of all our students, we are unable to accommodate changes once dismissal starts.
