Eastridge Elementary School September 1, 2019
Greeting Eastridge Families,
The month of September is also Attendance Awareness Month. Attendance at school every day, all day is very important! Students who have excellent attendance often perform at higher academic levels and make the most gains. Throughout the month of September, we will have an attendance contest with our Eastridge students. To encourage and reward students for good attendance, we will be giving a special prize to those who are at school every day in September. Let’s kick off September with perfect attendance!!
The Third Grade IREAD-3 Parent meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 5th has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 12th. This is a VERY IMPORTANT meeting for ALL 3rd grade parents. It is highly recommended that all parents attend. Please put this on your calendar so you do not miss this important informational meeting! Please look for the letter regarding this meeting which will be sent home with your child.
The Warren PTA is hosting Homefest Friday, September 6. The Fun Run will be held during this community event. More information regarding this event can be found at Warren Township Council of PTAs . We hope many of our Eastridge Families join us at Homefest and the Fun Run. It’s not too late to sign up!! There are many fun events planned for the evening! See you there!
Just a reminder that school is not in session this coming Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day. I hope that you and your family are able to enjoy and extended weekend.
Warmest regard,
Mrs. Johnson, Principal
NWEA (MAP) REPORTS
All students in Kindergarten through Fourth Grade will be bringing home their NWEA report on Friday, September 6th.
What is NWEA? NWEA, also referred to as MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.
When will my student be tested and how often? During the first weeks of school, students will participate in two NWEA testing sessions to assess Reading and Mathematics. When taking the NWEA test, the difficulty of each question is based on how well a student answers all the previous questions. As the student answers correctly, questions become more difficult. If the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. Although the tests are not timed, it usually takes students about one hour to complete each test. Students will repeat the tests two more times during the year to continually assess student progress and adapt learning as needed.
Do all students in the same grade take the same test? No. This assessment is designed to target a student's academic performance in mathematics and reading. These tests are tailored to an individual's current achievement level. This gives each student a fair opportunity to show what he or she knows and can do. Because the computer adjusts the difficulty of the questions as the test progresses, each student takes a unique test.
What are the NWEA test results used for? NWEA is used to measure a student's progress or growth in school. The testing information is important to teachers because it indicates a student's strengths are and help that is needed in any specific areas. Teachers can use this information to help them guide instruction in the classroom.
Where can I go to find more information about the NWEA testing? You can talk with your child's teacher, go directly to the NWEA website at http://www.nwea.org, or read the whole Parent's Toolkit document at Parent Toolkit
Parent Portal - Important Information
You can access the Parent Portal registration form by clicking here. You can also pick up a copy in the school office - completed forms must be turned in to the Eastridge Main Office.
As a parent or guardian of a student attending a Warren school, you have online access to your child or children's grades, attendance, discipline, and academic history. The student and parent portal has been upgraded to Tyler SIS Student 360. This new portal offers parents, students and district staff online access to student information via the Web on PCs or tablets or on a smartphone application — providing comprehensive functionality with a touch-friendly, intuitive interface.
You must obtain a username and password from Eastridge Elementary in order to access your child's information. Once your information is verified (after completing the form linked above), a username and password will be generated by the school and given to you.
Attendance Matters, Facts Matters, Information Matters
RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ATTENDANCE IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.
Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. Every school day counts in a child's academic life...A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. The effects of lost school days build up one absence at a time on individual students. Please ensure that your child understands the importance of good school attendance and is at school every day. Every day matters! Every day provides important learning opportunities! Set your child up for success by developing these good habits now!
Attend today. Achieve tomorrow.
