Dear Shadow Hills Families,

It's been great having everyone back on campus. All the adventures you went on sounded terrific! Looking forward to next week, we will be gearing up for our second i-Ready diagnostic exam. Please ensure all computers are charged each night, and your child/ren gets plenty of sleep during the week and eats a healthy breakfast before school.

Here at school, we have been very busy learning about self discipline - what it means, and how we can practice it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help you child continue to learn about the theme of self discipline through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!

Reading About It

Here are some books to help you learn more respect:

Practice It!

Write down the names of several colors, using a color other than the name of the color you are writing. For example, write the word "red" in black, or the word "purple" in blue. Have your child try to read the words written, not the color in which they are written. Encourage your child to go slow and think about what they are doing.

Talk About It!

Here are some discussion points to help you talk about courage with your child:

• What is self discipline and why is it important?
• Tell me about a time when you have had to sue self discipline?
• Why can it be hard to sue self discipline?
• Tell me about a time when using self discipline was difficult for you.
• What are some things you can do to make it easier to use self discipline?
• When you act or speak without thinking, what kinds of things do you say or do?

Please review and save this handbook for reference throughout the year.

• Water bottles - It is extremely important that your child brings a water bottle to school DAILY. We do have multiple water bottling filling stations on-site to refill their bottles.

If you are planning on volunteering this school year, please fill out our Volunteer Packet and return it to the Shadow Hills office.
