GMS Falcon Update

Congratulations to our 8th grade Clark State Scholarship recipients.These students were recognized at the induction ceremony last night at Clark State: Niveah Jacks, Khloe Roberts, Arianna Shamblin, Sydney Ford, Logan Pitsinger, Silas Arms, Ashley Sallee, Haden Lehman, Madalynn Cantrell and Makayla Barnhart.

Upon completion of the program through high school they will be eligible for free tuition at Clark State College.

Congratulations to our Power of the Pen members who competed in the Regional competition at Wittenberg this weekend. Bella Bever took 3rd overall in grade 7 and Bekah Wagner took 10th overall in grade 8. This will qualify them both for the state competition.

Today we had the opportunity to announce our students who had work selected for the Champaign County Arts Council spring show. More information is to come but congratulations to the following students:

Thursday of next week marks the end of Quarter 3. We have reminded students to do their best to complete all work to a high level to finish out the grading period and help us plan for the remainder of the year.

Quarter 3 Grade Cards will come home on 3/23.

Dear Parent or Caregiver of a Student with Special Needs,

The Ohio Department of Education invites you to respond to a short, 25 question survey about your child's education. The survey will take about 10 minutes to finish and can be completed using your mobile phone or a computer. You are eligible to participate if your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and receives Special Education services. The purpose of collecting this information is to improve services for students with disabilities and find out about your involvement in your student’s education. Research suggests that parental involvement is a key predictor of positive educational outcomes. If you are eligible and you complete the survey, you have the option of entering a drawing for a $50 electronic gift card.

To be eligible to participate in the Special Education Family Survey, you must meet three criteria. First, you must be the parent or guardian of a child who has an IEP and receives Special Education services. Second, your child must attend a school in an Ohio school district or local community school selected for this study. Third, your child must be between the ages of 3 and 22 years. Please answer the following questions to see if you can participate in the Special Education Family Survey. If you have more than one child receiving Special Education services, please answer these questions for the child who is the oldest.

As stated in the student/guardian handbook, school fee payments should be made in the Middle School office during the first two weeks of school.

Unfortunately, GMS currently has over $23,000 in unpaid school fees among it's three grade levels. These fees are used to directly pay for supplies used in the classroom, this academic year. As you can imagine, when over 80% of what was budgeted for this year is unpaid, we are struggling greatly to provide the experiences we hope to. Our goal is to also not require teachers to buy supplies for students, as that is not fair to our professionals. We are not preventing your child from access to materials, however, the school has been forced to cut back in many other areas to guarantee them access as they deserve.

I want to also reiterate that the school fees at Graham are often considerably lower than surrounding schools. We are great stewards of our funds because we have no choice. School fee money cannot be used for anything other than consumable supplies for this school year either per Ohio Revised Code.

Moving forward we have to take measures to ensure collection. Students will miss out on the following due to outstanding fees balances:

- field trips

- promotion or graduation ceremonies in grade 5, 8, 12

The district will further consider options for collection of unpaid fees at a later time.

Paperwork is in the office with information about the Fall trip. We will not take payments without paperwork (K&K contract/permission slip, and GLS Responsibility contract). Payment is made to Graham Local Schools. Payment plan is as follows:
