A note from the Superintendent
I was honored to be a judge at the annual Mr. Pelican fundraiser. The KU
students organized a wonderful and very entertaining event. The talent of our
students is amazing and I am already looking forward to the event next year. This
year the donations benefited the Friends of the Children.
On Tuesday this week I was able to eat lunch at Mills Elementary. The tater
tot casserole was very tasty. The students were enjoying the meal choices and the
staff was very excited to serve better meals for our students. We are still in the
early stages of our new food service program, but the early results have been
positive. Please encourage your children to give our new food service program a
try - they will not be disappointed.
I was also honored to be the Master of Ceremonies at the United Way annual
volunteer of the year luncheon this week. The event was very positive and well
attended. We are very fortunate to have community members who volunteer to
support all of the needs of our community.
We have all types of events going in this spring. If you have time, please
come out and see our students in action.
The 2023 KCC Foundation Gala is May 13th. The KCC Foundation raises
funds to help students reach their goals, honor folks who make big impacts and
share some laughs. This year's entertainment is an old-fashioned Melodrama "A
Fistful of Spuds," featuring a local cast and written by Dan Neubauer and KCC's
own Peter Lawson. The fun starts at 5:30 PM. KCC provides many opportunities
for our students to gain college credit and also very important certifications to gain
careers. KCC is a key educational partner with KFCS.
If you are interested in attending the event to support our students please go to the website link: https://www.klamathcc.edu/en-US/foundation/education-makes-a-difference/hay-klamath-gala.html

This year's Mr. Pelican 2023 went to Klamath Union High School senior Gerardo Mendez. Mendez was one of 10 Mr. Pelican contestants who competed against each other in a parody of Miss Klamath County and Miss City of Sunshine.
Along with Mendez, the show featured seniors Nathan Carter, Aidan Coe, Andrew Morris, William Soriano, junior Carter Harmon, sophomores Joshua Nash, Bryce Petersen and freshman Brent Peterson and Jacob Martin.
Mendez stole the show with his personality, ear-to-ear smile and charisma. The KU senior performed a dance with some of his family and friends. The dance was part of a traditional Hispanic birthday party known as a quinceanera, which celebrates a daughter's 15th birthday.
As the winner, Mendez takes home a $2,000 scholarship toward his select university, community college or trade program. Friends of the Children, this year's beneficiary, earned over $2,000 during a miracle minute which was received during the event, and will earn funds from the night as well.
Klamath County Job Fair 2023
Klamath Falls City Schools was one of countless departments, organizations and job opportunities the community saw on display at this year's Klamath County Job Fair.
KFCS Human Resource Technician and Safety & Health Manager, George Slaughter, represented the school district along with Juliana Lamb and Roland Burkhead, who are both bus drivers for KFCS.
Lamb was a bus driver for Klamath Falls City Schools for seven years before she retired momentarily and recently decided to return as a bus driver once more this past December.
Burkhead is one of the newer bus drivers in the District and is in his second year as a bus driver at KFCS.

Adulting 101at KLC
Sean Winters from Klamath Works visits Klamath Learning Center twice a week to teach Adulting 101.
His curriculum covers everything from budgeting, resume building and stress management. Winters
teaches his class each Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-11:45 a.m., and again from 12:15-1:00 p.m. in the gym at the KFCS district office.
Adulting 101 is optional for students at KLC. This past Thursday, students started class with a game of Jenga. The game was not your common game, however. As students played, Winters made sure to ask his students how they were, if they were looking for a job, finishing resume's.
Winters centered his class and the game of Jenga with the hope his students would see what was their next priority they wanted to complete. After each turn in Jenga, a student would say what they wish they could finish next in their life or a goal they want to achieve.
Winters likes his students to be active during Adulting 101 as well, and students finished class with a friendly game of horse.
