Cowles Montessori Crier
Week of September 26th through September 30th
Cowles P.E.
What’s going on in Physical Education?
In P.E. class, all grades have been going outside as much as possible to enjoy the weather before the Winter months. All levels have done team challenges and activities that involve working as a team/class. Classes have really enjoyed playing capture the flag out on the field when it is nice. On rainy days, classes have been doing a boat challenge where they have to get their team across the gym without touching the ground
(shown below – Maxwell’s 4-6 grade class).

Volunteer With DMPS
Dear Prospective Volunteer,
The Des Moines Public Schools exist so that graduates possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful at the next stage of their lives. Volunteers play a very important role in helping the district accomplish its mission. I want to thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer in our district. We have a responsibility for, and a strong commitment to, ensuring the safety of the students we serve. To this end, all volunteers must give their consent to the district allowing for the request of information concerning their criminal history. Please complete all parts of the forms provided on the link to the right. This will enable us to process your application as quickly as possible. The success of our students requires commitment from the entire community. We’re excited for the support that you will provide in our relentless pursuit of our mission!
Sincerely,
Thomas M. Ahart
Superintendent
Des Moines Public Schools

Fall Fun Healthy Recipe (from Mr. White):
Banana Ghost Pops
The first step is to freeze your bananas. I peel mine and then lay them flat on a cookie sheet. This only takes a few hours. Once they are frozen, cut each banana into thirds.
You will need only 3 other ingredients. Yogurt, shredded coconut and chocolate chips. I pulsed my coconut in the food processor.
Put a toothpick or a popsicle stick in one end of each banana. Then dip in the yogurt and make sure you cover it all the way around and roll it in the coconut. You could just use yogurt or cover it with white chocolate, white sprinkles, anything really.
Once it is covered in coconut, just put 2 chocolate chips on for eyes. You can also use raisins. Push them in good so they will stay. If you aren’t going to eat them right away, place them on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer. Otherwise the banana will get all soft and mushy.
