News & Updates
Hello CELC & MVLA Families,
We had an awesome week filled with smiles, studying our color of the week (red), honoring the heroes of 911, and just being "flamazing"! Thank you to the families that attended the Patriot Day Ceremony. It was nice to be able to gather outside together. I always enjoy hearing The National Anthem, especially when it is my niece singing. I have my daughter in training to take over some day!
As a reminder, CELC official start time is 9:05 am. Students are not considered late until 9:06 am. The gates open at 8:45 am to allow a small window for breakfast and for families that have multiple drop off times.
The MVLA drop off and pick up procedures will change starting Tuesday, September 14th. MVLA students will have the option to drop off at CELC rolling gate or SHES. Pick up will be at SHES. I do enjoy seeing the MVLA families each day, so I hope to see some of you in the mornings.Thank you for your patience while we evaluated the procedures and worked with the District and SHES to make the changes.
Please make sure that you are dropping your student off in the morning and leaving right away. We know it is difficult sometimes to not stop and chat with other families, but please take your conversations to the front of the school. If your student picks up breakfast, they should take it to the class and eat at the table outside the classroom. The District continues to be guided by California Department of Public Health and our experiences from last year. Thank you for your support while we navigate the 2021-22 school year.
Important Updates and Information:
- It is an election year for AUSD's American Indian Parent Committee (AIPC). If you have a student with a 506 on file and are interested in becoming involved in AICP, please email Tamara Ripke at tripke@alpineschools.net. Ballots will be sent out on September 17th.
- The AEF Gala is this Saturday at JMMS. We hope to see you there!
- Our first PTA meeting is this Thursday, September 16th. Please join us to meet our 2021-22 Board and find out more about membership and upcoming events. See Zoom link below.
- Please take a couple of minutes to fill out a media release form. We would love to start posting pictures of what is happening in the classrooms. :) Click the link here: MVLA Release Form OR CELC Release Form. We still have many families that haven't been able to do this yet. It is super important! We would like to start sharing more pictures of what our students are doing in the classrooms.
- Thank you for the continued donations of water. With the heat, we go through them fast. We can always use more donations of water bottles: 8oz or 16oz. If you are willing and able to help out, please drop the water off at the school office.
- Please send your student with a refillable water bottle daily. We have refilling stations on campus.
- We had a few parents ask for ideas of items to donate to the school. An Amazon Wishlist if provided below. Items include educational games, social emotional picture books, everyday necessities like wipes, sand toys, and more.
- AUSD's next Kindness Dress Up day is Wednesday, October 6th . "Team Up For Kindness" and wear your favorite jersey.

- Families are welcomed on campus to drop off and pick up their students at the classroom door and then leave immediately after.Thank you for your support with this procedure. We understand it is difficult some days but please follow our protocols so that we can continue to allow parents on campus.
- Students can be dropped off at the curb in the morning as long as their is a staff member present and it is before 9:05 am.
- Chromebook distribution for incoming Cubs or students that are new to our district occurs daily in the school office. The best time to come is after 9:05 am or 15-20 minutes before pick up. Our office staff is usually assisting with drop off and pick up. The forms will be available in the office. You can also print them ahead and fill them out. See attachments below. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE DELAY IN DISTRIBUTION. THE DISTRICT IS ORDERING MORE CHROMEBOOKS. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW AS SOON AS THEY ARRIVE.
- School supply request- we will begin using the chromebooks and computer lab regularly starting late September. We have headphones available; however, if you are able to send headphones or earbuds to school for your student to keep in their desk, we would greatly appreciate it. Please put it in a baggie with their name on it. We have purchased headphones and will be passing them out to students that do not have a personal set at school.
- CELC is looking for parents interested is being a member of the School Site Council (SSC). We have found the minimum people needed to form the PTA Board but would welcome more. We currently have only one parent interested in SSC. We need three more! Please call or stop by the office to speak to Stephanie Green if you are interested.

Attention MVLA Parents
Your 1st-8th grade students began utilizing iReady last week. We have received a lot of positive feedback from students and teachers. Please continue to send your student to school with their Chromebook. If they have headphones that can be left at school to use daily, please send those as well. Headphones were ordered and distributed to students that do not have a personal set available at school. Kindergarten students will begin iRead in a couple of weeks.

Self Care September
Join our AUSD family in utilizing resources at www.actionforhappiness.org. They have monthly themes and ideas to help keep us Happier-Kinder-Together!
Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. No-one's perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people's outsides. This month is Action for Happiness is encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too.
AUSD is Hiring
If you, or any of your friends/family, love kids and are looking for part time work, please share our postings. We have a couple of positions on our site as well as on other campuses. Please visit https://www.edjoin.org/alpineschools. Please send friendly, qualified candidates our way! Creekside currently has three part-time job openings: Dual Language Instructional Aide, Instructional Aide, and Preschool Teacher!
The district would like to increase the number of substitute teachers in our pool. The pay has increased to $200 dollars a day. Please help spread the word. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Mrs. Ripke.
