How Grades Are Calculated at HCHS
Completed tests and assignments are scored using the following scale:
A – 90-100
B – 80-89
C – 70-79
D – 60-69
F – 50-59
HCHS Quarter (9 weeks) Report Card Grades and
Mid-Quarter (4.5 weeks) Progress Report Grades
"M" = Work not Completed
Tests and assignments that are not completed or turned in on time are marked “M” in Infinite Campus.
- An “M” automatically calculates as a zero.
- Students can change the zero score by submitting completed work or completing make-up tests by the end of the quarter.
- All late work will be scored. 10% points will be deducted from scores on all late work.
- Tests made up by the end of the grading period will not have points deducted from the score the student earns on the test.
- No late work may be submitted and no tests may be made up after the grading period ends. All missing work not made up by the end of the grading period will remain an “M” and be calculated as a score of zero in the quarterly grade.
- It is not always possible for late work and make-up tests to be scored right away. When late work or make-up tests are completed and submitted, the “M” in Infinite Campus will be replaced right away with a score or with a “T.” A score will automatically calculate into the quarterly average. A “T,” however, is a temporary marker to indicate late work or make-up tests have been completed and submitted. A “T” removes the zero, but it is not calculated as a score. Removing a zero improves the quarterly grade, however, this grade will be adjusted once a score is entered to replace the “T.”
Students who turn completed assignments in on time may request test retakes.
Students may request to retake or resubmit assignments entered in the summative grades category under the following conditions:
All assignments graded in the formative category prior to the summative assignment/assessment were turned in on time.
The student has no unexcused absences for that class for the current quarter.
Students who are failing a course in the last weeks of a grading period must attend after-school catch-up.

FINAL GRADE CALCULATIONS AND GPA
A final course average is assigned at the end of the school year using the following calculation:
(Q1 average).2 + (Q2 average).2 + (Q3 average).2 + (Q4 average).2 + (Midterm exam grade).1 + (Final exam grade).1
The course average is converted to a letter grade using the HCS District-wide Grading Scale:
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 59 & below
Final course letter grades are converted to a GPA using these steps:
Convert each letter to a value.
A = 4 (5 for AP courses)
B = 3 (4 for AP courses)
C = 2 (3 for AP courses)
D = 1 (2 for AP courses)
F = 0
Find the average of those values to determine a student’s GPA.
Final course letter grades and GPAs appear on student transcripts.
