Thank you so much for your generosity this week with our coin drive! We are so incredibly thankful for all of the money that we collected to put books in our kids hands!

Benjamin School District 25 is starting a technology advisory committee and we are looking for parent and student committee members. The committee will meet on Tuesday, March 7, and Tuesday, April 4, from 6:00 to 7:15. We would like just a parent from kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade, and a parent and student from grades 3 to 8 to participate. If you are interested or have any questions about the committee, please contact Sarah Smith.

The 5Essentials Survey will be open from January 24-March 31 2023. This survey is a comprehensive, evidence-based tool designed to drive improvement in schools. The survey will generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of our school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois School Board of Education. This survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. The five indicators that affect school success are:

· Effective Leaders

· Collaborative Teachers

· Involved Families

· Supportive Environments

· Ambitious Instruction

We need at least 20% of Evergreen parents and 20% of Benjamin parents to complete the parent survey to generate a parent report for each school. If you have students at both schools, please complete a survey for Benjamin and Evergreen. If you have more than one child and they attend the same school you may participate multiple times. Only one parent per household can participate. (Evergreen is at 14%!)

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

Note: Parents have the option to leave their email address so that we can send them confirmation of survey completion upon submission of the parent survey supplement. That text box can be left blank if the parent doesn’t want to provide or have an email address. Thanks in advance for your participation.

Just a reminder that there is no student attendance on Monday, February 20th.

Our kindergarten registration event is just around the corner! This is an open house event, so families can pop in anytime between 4:30-6:30. At the event, families will fill out a pre-registration form, sign up for a screening appointment on March 8th, and fill out a kindergarten intake form. If you have a student in our Evergreen preschool program with Mrs. Quealy or Mrs. Zapata, your child will be screened during the day while they are at school. We are looking forward to meeting our new kindergarten students and their families! Any questions, please contact Sarah Smith.

Please remember that Evergreen has a no edible birthday treats policy. If you are wanting to send something to school to share with your child's class, then it can be a small treat, such as a pencil, eraser, sticker, etc. Unfortunately, if you send a food treat to school, it will be sent home with your child. This allows all students with food allergies, preferences, or restrictions to be able to partake in a celebration and not feel left out in any way.

Some students in the upper grade levels are taking advantage of the instant messaging option on their device during class time to message their peers during instruction. Students have been given many reminders that this is not appropriate. Moving forward, if it is witnessed by a staff member, the student will be losing their computer privileges for a period of time.

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the Evergreen Office, 630-876-7810, to report your child's absence no later than 8:00 AM the day of the absence.
