Severance Middle School

This school year, we have more students walking and biking as well as more students being dropped off and picked up from school. For safety of the students, please use a courtesy traffic pattern and look over your shoulder a few times while managing the traffic flow. We ask that families pull all the way up to the flagpole. As your student gets picked up, you can merge out into the left lane of the loop to leave. At the same time, families can drive in from the left lane to replace cars in the front as they leave. If your pick up spot is in the parking lot, please encourage your student to use the crosswalk located by the front doors. Please drive slowly through the pick up loop to ensure the safety of everyone. Please only drop off or pick students up from the front of the school to avoid any issues with our busses in the back.

Our teachers are looking forward to the opportunity to meet with families during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. Our virtual conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 6th and Wednesday, October 7th from 4:30-8:00. Families will have the opportunity to sign-up for a 10-minute video conference through Google Hangouts or a 10-minute telephone call.

The Weld RE-4 Foundation Flip Flop Gala is an annual fundraiser that benefits the schools in our district. Shop at local Windsor/Severance businesses between October 18-24 to help support the foundation or you can make a donation directly through their website at www.weldre4educationfoundation.com. Please review your students fees to ensure they are paid as we near the end of the quarter. You may send payment in with your student to the school office or pay online with CAMPUS Parent. If you have any questions or need assistance with fees, please contact Carole Gonzales at carole.gonzales@weldre4.org.

Please review the school dress code with your student(s). We will begin holding students accountable to the expectations beginning next week. The full dress code can be found in the student handbook (page 3), which can be found on the school website (SMS information > General Information > Student Handbook 20-21) or inside the front of the school planner. As a reminder, masks are part of our dress code this year.

As we continue to update and maintain current attendance records, please contact us if your student will not be attending school for any reason to excuse your student’s absence. This is for In-Person and At-Home/asynchronous learning days. The attendance line is 970-833-7205.

Please screen your student(s) before sending them to school using these updated guidelines released from CDE. These guidelines also include return to school protocols.

Our students continue to do AMAZING with wearing masks. Please provide your student(s) with a cloth face covering everyday. Please avoid masks that contain a vent as research shows that those are more harmful than helpful. Please make sure the mask has at least 2 layers of fabric. Wearing a mask will be part of our dress code and MUST be worn at all times. Students will be provided safe, supervised mask breaks during the school day (outside). Also, every person entering our building will need to be temperature screened and wear a mask.

Please remind students to wear a mask before and after school. We ask that they have their mask on until they leave campus.

Due to extended emergency meal benefits, ALL students (age 0-18 years of age) can now receive free meals through the Federal Emergency Meals Program. All meals for all students when learning takes place on-campus, off-campus, and through Inspire4 K-12 Online School will be FREE until December 2020 or until available federal funding runs out.

Middle and high school students in a hybrid learning model can pick up to-go meals for their off-campus days. Middle school, high school, and Inspire4 families may also choose to pick up meals on off-campus days for their students. Lunches are available for pick up each Monday or Tuesday from 3:45-4:15 p.m. in our rotunda.

Families are encouraged to continue to apply for Free or Reduced meals, which helps our district from a funding standpoint. Learn more about the free and reduced lunch program (and apply) here.

• We have changed our content classes to reflect semester grades/learning from quarterly learning. In order to see your child’s grades, you need to click on “all terms” if you are on a computer, or “2nd quarter” if you are using the phone app. Our quarterly elective class grades are found under “1st quarter”. The Windsor Rec Center is providing care for the new Weld RE-4 middle school hybrid schedules! Camp Windsor is a licensed day camp which will operate under the guidelines of Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. The all-day program will offer daily meals provided by Weld RE-4 Nutrition Services, learning center and fun activities. Please CLICK HERE for full details.

Severance MS has joined the King Soopers Rewards Program. It's a simple way to help SMS fundraise for our field trip fund. The program is free to you and takes less than a minute to sign up. All you need is a King Sooper's Loyalty card.

Severance MS collects Box Tops and Morning Fresh Milk lids as part of our on going fundraiser.

Box Tops is changing to fit today's families. The new and improved Box Tops Mobile app uses state of the art technology to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to your school's earning online.
