• 5th grade state assessments (Science) 10:15 a.m.

Wednesday, April 14

• In-person learning day for all students
• 3rd-6th grade state assessments for remote students (ELA & Math) 8:30-noon
• Kindergarten Round-ups (4:30-7:00 by appointment-- please contact office for more information 357-5400)

Thursday, April 15

• 5th grade state assessments (Science) 10:15 a.m.

State assessments are an exciting opportunity for your student(s) to show what they've learned throughout this year and will be one data point we use when measuring growth for 3rd-6th grade students in the areas of Mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), and Science (5th grade only).

Teachers have been preparing students for our Spring assessments and we ask that you support both students and staff by ensuring your student(s)...

• get adequate sleep the night before their test(s)
• arrive to school on time and are in attendance during each testing session
• bring their charged school device (macbook or iPad) that will be used for testing
• have headphones or earbuds to listen to important information during testing
• eat a good breakfast (if they don't eat breakfast at school)

We cannot wait to see what our students have learned. Below is the Spring assessment schedule for SHES. Please let your child's teacher know you have any questions. We look forward to having a successful testing season!

Thank you for supporting our Edward R. Pettit scholarships through purchasing Smens, Smencils & Yummy-lix during our recent sales campaign. With your help we have collected over $1000 to award graduating seniors who are SHES alumni with scholarships.

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Pettit Parking Lot Party (Tuesday, May 4th from 5-7 p.m.) with sales from local food trucks continuing to add to these scholarship funds.

As we plan for next school year, there are many considerations that influence classroom placement. Each classroom decision is measured carefully as we attempt to form balanced classrooms and the best placement for each student. As a parent, you are welcome to request a teacher for your student. In order for a request to be considered, it must be linked to an educational reason. Written requests for 2021-2022 will be accepted through Friday, May 14th and can be sent to the office or emailed to Rebecca Hummer, Principal

As an elementary educator and principal, I enjoy working collaboratively with school staff, parents and families to support student learning. I am passionate about continuing to grow professionally while building relationships with students, staff and families at SHES. It is an honor to work in a school and district focused of the education of all children; dedicated to helping our students grow academically, socially and emotionally.

When I am not at school, I can usually be found with family at sporting events, bargain shopping, enjoying time outside, crafting, watching a movie or reality TV series at home, or cheering on the KU Jayhawks.
