Y11
This half term Y11 have been working hard to plan and host an Afternoon Tea event as part of their vocational learning.
The pupils used functional Mathematics to workout quantities of food and ingredients that would be required and functional English to create menus and posters promoting the event. The group then worked fantastically well preparing all of the food
including a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade scones with cream & jam, and an assortment of desserts, and finally hosted the event.
All the staff that attended the event were amazed by the fantastic presentation of the tables and the food that had been prepared;
"Such a lovely afternoon! All the students should be so proud. Beautiful",
"A huge thank you for a lovely lunch yesterday. The students were 'beaming' and had obviously enjoyed doing the preparation. The food was fab, and the table looked so inviting we couldn't wait to begin eating. I know I ate far too much but it was lovely. Well done to all the staff too"
Thanks to all of the staff that attended the event and to those that helped Y11 organise it.
This half term ended with a Valentines Day themed Café for staff and pupils from across school. Many thanks to everyone who supported the event.
The proceeds from the Café as always will be donated to Rotherham Hospice.
Horticulture
This half term pupils in Y11 have continued their BTEC Horticulture coursework including maintaining the school grounds and extending the soft fruit tree bedded area.
We hope to plant further trees in the coming weeks and as the weather improves more projects will begin throughout the school grounds
Upper School Options: Sports
On Friday 15th February a group of Upper School pupils visited Sheffield Wednesday training ground for an open day for 4 All Sports and Sheffield Wednesday; who have recently created a new partnership. The group had a fun day playing football, archery and weight lifting. They also had the chance to meet several Sheffield Wednesday player and their manager Steve Bruce who were all more than willing to chat to our pupils. Many thanks to them all for their great hospitality.
House Afternoon
On February 12th February Pupils from both Canal side (CS2) and Storey Street came together for a fun afternoon of house activities.
The event began with a quiz led by Mrs Leighton where each team (Drake, Cook and Kingsley) competed to answer questions correctly to earn house points.
A group of pupils, that had earned the most house points, from each team were then selected to take part in an orienteering challenge whilst everyone else took part in a variety of team building activities with the rest of their house.
Thank you to the House Leaders for organising the activities and to all staff for their support in ensuring everything ran smoothly and that the pupils all had a fabulous time.
