South Side Families,

Things are going very well at South Side Elementary. Our students seemed to be very refreshed after a week-long fall break. I had many teachers comment about how great that first week back was for everyone. Now we are back in the swing of a school schedule and we are going to be very busy in the coming weeks! Please be sure to take a look at the important dates section below.

Parent/teacher conferences are tomorrow evening from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. You need to have a scheduled time for tomorrow's conferences. If you do not have one yet, please reach out to your child's teacher today. I have seen many of you in the building for early conferences either before or after school hours, and even some of you during school hours. You can expect teachers to be ready to share positive news about your child's progress and also important information about how they may improve. Please also remember that conference time is a great time to gather more information from the teacher about any questions that you've considered so far this year.

I will be available during parent/teacher conferences this Thursday evening too, along with Mrs. Erexson and Mrs. Carden. We plan to have a table set up at the front door so stop by and say hello!

Our Veteran's Day celebration will take place on Monday, November 11 at 9:30 am. Students will be bringing home a family veteran RSVP form in November. Please be sure to fill out the RSVP and return it right away if you plan to attend.

The weather is really cooling off! Please be sure to send your child to school with appropriate clothing for outside weather each day. We go out to recess unless temperatures reach unsafe conditions under 10 degrees. If you need assistance with cold weather clothing let us know, we are happy to help you with this!

The Mobile Dentists will be coming to South Side at the end of November. If you want your student to be seen by the dentist, look for the red and white permission slip in your child’s folder. Call Nurse Ashley if you have any questions!

Our annual fall PTO carnival is coming up on Friday, November 8 from 5:30 to 7:30. Wrist band order forms have been sent home. Tickets will be available for purchase that evening as well. We have a number of outstanding auction items this year too! Our annual book fair will also be open in our school library that evening. We hope to see lots of South Side families that night!

We are in need of boys shoes for gym class! If you have an extra pair of new or gently used gym shoes from boys sizes 1 – 5, please consider donating them. Sometimes, students come to gym class and aren’t able to run in the shoes they have on, so we like to have extras on hand for them.
