Halloween Fun at Oak Grove!
From Mrs. B. and Mr. Murray
PTO Room Parent Thank You!
The rainy, cold weather did not hold back the inside festivities in our classrooms last Friday. Thanks to our wonderful PTO Room Parents, our K-4 students enjoyed a wide variety of fall games and activities. In grades 5-8, our students dressed to WIN the purple, green, orange, and black color war. Thank you, PTO, for all you do to create positive energy at OGS!
Lost and Found - 11/13/21
From 10:30 AM - Noon on Saturday, November 13, 2021, the front entrance of the school will be open for anyone who would like to stop by and take a look. We have collected many items in our Lost and Found so far this year. Any items left after 11/13/21 will be donated to a local charity for someone else to use.
**Mr. Rendon has the Lost and Found items ready for anyone available this week from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM.**
Bus Changes
Ms. Sherman and Mrs. B enjoyed a productive conversation with the bus company last week. They were able to make one adjustment so far for a couple of our morning routes. Parents were notified already of these changes. In the coming weeks, Durham is working on the tiering of routes, which means flip-flopping and combining routes in order to avoid running double routes in the afternoon. We hope to have these changes ready beginning the week of 11/29. As soon as we have more information, we will share with the affected families.
Thursday’s Basketball Games Canceled
Due to parent-teacher conferences at Millburn, their teams need to cancel the games this Thursday (Nov. 4). We will inform families as soon as these games can be rescheduled.

Illinois Assessment for Readiness 2021 Results
In the spring of 2021, students in grades three through eight took the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Families will receive their child(ren)’s report via email on Friday, November 5th. The results of the IAR represent a baseline measure of student learning and readiness for college and careers. This assessment offers a small snapshot of your child’s performance. District 68 utilizes multiple measures including iReady, AIMSweb, and classroom based measures to understand student learning. More information will be included in the enclosed letter with student results.
Reminder: Standards Based Reporting Webinar
There will be an informational webinar on Standards Based Reporting November 2nd from 6:00-7:00pm. If you would like to attend the webinar, please register here. You will be sent a link to the webinar once you have registered.

We Are Eagles Dance Challenge Highlights Video
A couple weeks ago we reported on the spirit-filled We Are Eagles Dance Challenge and flash mob. We are excited to share a highlights video that includes a handful of the video submissions as well as some of the awesome drone footage. An extended version, including all submissions, plays on the multimedia screens inside the school. These videos would not be possible without the talents and generosity of Dr. Meltzer, so please join us in sending him a huge THANK YOU!
Halloween Celebration Gratitude
We hope everyone had a very Happy Halloween! We’d like to give a huge shout out to the grade 5-8 teacher liaisons: Mrs. Tazzioli, Mrs. Douglass, Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Edelson for organizing the Color Wars; and Mrs. Barnabee for helping coordinate plans! All the students came out strong! Unfortunately, due to the weather, the Halloween DJ during Junior High recess had to be postponed. It has been rescheduled for this Friday, November 5th so we look forward to helping the kids have some more fun this week!
Thank you as well to the K-4 teacher liaisons, Grade Level Coordinators, room parents and volunteers who helped plan and coordinate classroom parties. Celebrating together, helping the students create keepsakes and make memories with friends is just one of the many things that makes OGS such a special place and we couldn’t do it without everyone’s help.
