The Weekly Cat Tales

We are looking for a few wonderful people that would love to help out during lunch and recess on a daily basis. The position is Monday - Friday from 11:15-1:15pm. The pay rate is $13 per hour. The main responsibilities include monitoring students while they are at lunch and recess. Covington is a GREAT place to work. We would love to have you join our team. “H2O On the Go” Water Filling Station Grants: Four of our elementary schools (Covington, Hannum, Hometown, and Sward) have each won grants for two new water filling stations to replace our existing water fountains. As part of this grant, our students at each school will also receive toothbrushes and branded water bottles. This grant opportunity is sponsored by Delta Dental, to encourage school age students to drink more water in place of sugary drinks. More information on this grant opportunity is available here. Each bottle filler station is worth $2,500 (including installation), bringing the cumulative value of this grant to $20,000.

Dear Parents,

As part of the 4th grade music curriculum, we will be learning to play the soprano recorder in music class. This year, all 4th grade students will be provided with a recorder! They will get their recorders from their music teacher when we are ready to start our lessons. You will not need to purchase or provide a recorder from home. These recorders will be yours to keep at the end of the year!

Last year D123 began using the Visitor Aware program to immediately identify visitors, along with when they arrived, and where they are going

In order to ensure a smooth visit to the school, please use THIS LINK to complete the pre-registration for Visitor Aware.

Once pre-registered, you will be prompted to take a picture of yourself and answer the questions, including DL#. Once you do this they will be in the system. You will receive their QR code via text and email. This QR code is what you will use when checking into the school for a visit.

Parking can be very hard around Covington at arrival and dismissal. Please refrain from parking in the staff parking lot during these times of day. These spots are dedicated to our hard working teachers.

There are specific requirements for students entering preschool, kindergarten, second grade and sixth grade, as well as for all new students. Visit our Health Forms & Guidelines page for more information. Please note that these vaccinations and/or health examinations are required by state law.

We strongly encourage you to join our PTO at Covington. We work together to provide many different events throughout the school year for the students. We always work with our volunteers to set them up for success. We will be offering all of the possible sign ups at the first meeting. Please consider joining this organization.

Beginning with the 2023-24 school year on August 24th, families who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will have to pay for school meals. Students whose families are eligible for free or reduced-price breakfast or lunch will be able to access meals next school year at no cost or a discounted rate. The cost is as follows.

• Breakfast: $1.60
• Lunch (including milk): $3.15.
• A la carte milk: $0.65 cents.

At this time, the federal government has not extended the waivers for next school year to allow free meals for all students. As a result, schools across the nation will be reverting back to free and reduced-price meals based on income eligibility guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
