The senior class had their last day of school last Friday! We are excited for them as they embark upon their next chapter.

As part of the high school’s Advanced Programming Club, the senior class put together a virtual map showcasing their destinations after graduating, building upon the same project from the Class of 2019 and 2020. View the Virtual Senior Map to see where the Class of 2021 are heading!

If your student is not able to attend the FCCPS Student Vaccine Clinic on June 11 for the 2nd dose of the Pfizer COVID Vaccine, parents/guardians should come to pick up their child's vaccine card. The cards cannot be sent home in a student's backpack or via a student, unless the student is 18+years or older. Please contact the division's Public Health Nurse, Laura Giles (gilesl@fccps.org), to make arrangements to pick up your student's vaccine card.

Additionally, if you need support for an alternative date/location for your student's second dose, you can use www.vaccinefinder.org to find a local appointment. Another option is the vaccination clinic at Tysons Corner Center in the former Lord & Taylor store. You can walk in there with no appointment necessary from 9 AM to 4 PM. You can also schedule an appointment there from 8:30-5 PM. They are closed on Sunday. More information can be found at https://www.tysonscornercenter.com/Directory/Details/819965 regarding the Community Vaccine Center hosted by the Fairfax County Health Department. Students in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 will have their SOLs this Wednesday, May 26 starting at 8:00 AM. All SOLs may only be taken in-person. Student laptops must be fully charged; students should bring calculators (there is an online one as well), and pencils. Testing locations were shared through Schoology and Math classes. Students will be dismissed upon the completion of the exam. An email will be sent out to all families when a majority of the tests have been completed. The usual morning bus runs will be operating to get regular bus riders to school on time, and the afternoon buses will leave at 12:00 PM for bus riders who would like a ride home. The 3:00 PM bus runs will not be operating. All-virtual students may not ride the bus due to established seating assignments for contact tracing purposes.

We encourage students to continue using available resources to help them finish the school year strong.

• Learning Support: This is a time reserved for students to get support from their different teachers. It is available every in-person day from 11:05 - 11:33 AM. Students may book teachers through their Calendly Link located in their class Schoology page.

• Wednesday Independent Learning Day: From 8:00 AM - Noon the Library and collaborative spaces are open for students to use as a quiet study space, as a meeting space for group projects, or to meet with a teacher. The school buses operate on its regular schedule in the morning, and departs the high school at 12:00 PM. This Wednesday will be the last Wednesday this will be offered since the following Wednesday, June 2, is Graduation Day here at the high school.
  

• Writing Lab: WL is for students who need help with ANY writing assignment. Students should join the Schoology group using access code, WCJM-99P2-7VC8C, then book an appointment with a peer tutor using this Calendly link. WL is available every in-person day from 3:00 - 4:00 PM, virtually and in-person in Room 313.

• Saturday Learning Lounge: From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM in Room 420 or L29. Sign up here whether a peer tutor is needed or not. Submit the form by 3:00 PM on the Thursday before, if a tutor is needed.

For Summer Academy, students will have the opportunity to select from a variety of Hybrid Classroom (Hy-C) courses for new credit, credit recovery or continuation, or obtain enrichment for advanced courses. If you have not yet, please register your child for the 2021 Summer Academy Program before the June 2 deadline using this Summer Academy Registration Form. Parents/Guardians will be sent a confirmation email once registration closes and not before.

Summer Academy Orientation for all students who registered is tomorrow, Tuesday, May 25 at 10:15 AM, during Stable Groups, in the Auditorium. A recording of the orientation will be posted in Schoology.

As we prepare for the Summer Tech Refresh (collection and distribution), we need your help with the following:

• If your student is NOT registered for a summer academic program (ex. Summer Academy), please encourage them to turn in their school-issued laptop, case, and charger on their last day of class.

1. There will be bins in every classroom for students to drop off their laptop, case, and charger.

2. If your student is not here for the last week of school, they can drop off their laptop, case, and charger to the library at any time.

• If your child IS registered for a summer academic program, we ask that you encourage your child to turn in their school-issued laptop, case, and charger on Friday, July 30.

1. There will be a bin located in the main office for students to drop off their laptop, case, and charger when they complete their summer work or by July 30, the end of the summer programs.

• If your child needs the laptop after July 30, please complete this request form.

The Library will be open for all rising seniors, juniors and sophomores to pick up a new device from August 16-August 27 (between 9 AM-3 PM). Your child must pick up the new device (to set a new password and ensure their accounts work). If your child is not available, their parent/guardian may do so on their behalf but must have their student's login credentials.

Rising Freshmen may pickup a their new device on Friday, August 27 from 9 AM-12 PM during Freshmen Orientation.

We appreciate your support in ensuring that we can use the summer months efficiently and that your child is prepared for the first day of school.

All students enrolled for courses at Meridian High School for 2021-2022 are expected to read over the summer. English teachers will ask students to draw on this reading for one of the opening assignments of the school year. Classes for 11th and 12th grade students will also rely on students to complete reading an assigned novel over the summer. Reading requirements and resources are based on course enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year and can be found on the summer reading site.

What is most important as students read over the summer is engagement and enjoyment. We encourage parents, grandparents, family or friends to read a book together and talk about it. The joy of reading is enriched when shared.

Monday through Thursday, June 7-10

Half days of instruction, 8:05 AM-11:45 AM for culminating course activities. For the last week of school Wednesday will be an in-person day for students.
