Unit 2 Week 1: Jobs Around Town
Essential Question: What jobs need to be done in a community?
Unit 2 Week 1 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Short e spelled e and ea (leg, beg, men, hen, head, bread, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Inflectional Ending -ed (yelled, spelled, dressed, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- again, help, new, there, use
- Vocabulary Words- occupation, community, equipment, fortunately, astonishing
- Comprehension Skill- Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story using key details.
- Grammar Skill- Use common, proper, and possessive nouns.
Unit 2 Week 2: Buildings All Around
Essential Question: What buildings do you know? What are they made of?
Unit 2 Week 2 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Short u Words (run, fun, nut, cut, bug, rug, men, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Contractions with 's (he's, she's, let's, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- could, live, one, then, three
- Vocabulary Words- shelter, materials, collapsed, furious, refused
- Comprehension Skill- Cite relevant evidence from text. Determine character, setting and events in a story. Retell text.
- Grammar Skill- Use singular and plural nouns.
Unit 2 Week 3 : A Community in Nature
Essential Question: Where do animals live together?
Unit 2 Week 3 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Ending Consonant Blends nd, nk, nt, st, sk and mp (lend, send, fast, past, sink, wink, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Inflectional Ending -ing (planting, jumping, blinking, etc.)/Introduction to Two-Syllable Words
- High-Frequency Words- eat, no, of, under, who
- Vocabulary Words- habitat, depend, hibernate, tranquil, tolerate
- Comprehension Skill- Cite relevant evidence from text using pictures and words. Identify the main topic and retell key details in a text.
- Grammar Skill- Use possessive nouns (The crab's legs move fast.)
Unit 2 Week 4 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Consonant Digraphs th, sh, -ng (fish, shop, ship, with, thing, sang, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Closed Syllable Words (rabbit, pocket, finish, button, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- all, call, day, her, want
- Vocabulary Words- leadership, admire, enjoy, rely, connections
- Comprehension Skill- Cite relevant evidence from text using pictures and words. Describe characters, settings, and events. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Identify common and proper nouns. Capitalize proper nouns (The boy lives at the top of Trent Hill.).
Unit 2 Week 5 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Consonant Digraphs ch, -tch, wh, ph (whip, whale, catch, match, chin, graph, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Plural Nouns with -es (patches, boxes, benches, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- around, by, many, place, walk
- Vocabulary Words- locate, route, height, model, separate
- Comprehension Skill- Cite relevant evidence from text using pictures and words. Identify the main topic and retell key details. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use irregular and plural nouns. (mouse/mice, man/men, woman/women, child/children, etc.)
