Welcome Back!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! We are thrilled to see our students and families on campus soon! It is our ongoing commitment to build relationships with students and deliver quality instruction every day. La Vernia Intermediate teachers and staff will continue to serve all students as they strive to achieve academic and personal success. Our theme this year is Rise to the Challenge! As we begin another year of learning, we will keep true to our La Vernia Intermediate beliefs and values of collaboration, support, and belonging as we provide a safe, healthy, and happy teaching and learning environment for our students, parents, and staff.
Communication:
Communication is essential as we work together to ensure your child has a successful school year. Although many avenues regarding communication outlets are mentioned below, please never hesitate to reach out directly at any time with questions or concerns you may have.
Campus contact information, along with dates, district calendar, parent portal, transportation updates, lunch menus, and other important documents can be found on the district website: www.lvisd.org. I also encourage you to join our campus Facebook pages: La Vernia Intermediate School and La Vernia Intermediate PTO. This social media platform will provide quick campus reminders and updates. In addition, a campus newsletter will be sent out via email to feature campus highlights. Please make sure your email address is up-to-date in our records. Your child’s homeroom teacher will also provide you with more specific information regarding classroom and teacher communication. Please continue to utilize Parent Portal to track grades and attendance.
Meet the Teacher:
We always look forward to meeting and greeting our students on Meet the Teacher Night. If you ordered school supplies online, they will be delivered directly to your student’s classroom. If you did not purchase school supplies online, we encourage you to bring your child’s school supplies with you to Meet the Teacher. Grade level supply lists can be found on our campus website.
Child Nutrition, Transportation, and other district departments will be available to answer any of your questions! Parents are welcome to park in front or behind the Intermediate Campus.
All grade levels: Thursday, August 3rd 5:00-6:30
Dates to Remember:
In an effort to help you prepare for the school year, we have shared some upcoming dates and events. Please continue to check our website and newsletters for changes and additions.

First Day of School:
Your patience is greatly appreciated in the first few weeks of school as we work through creating a seamless routine with our daily procedures, car rider line, and transportation pick-up and drop-off times. The car rider line will begin accepting students at 6:45 a.m., and a car rider line map will be provided at Meet the Teacher. Parents are welcome to walk their students to class on the first day of school, beginning at 7:00. Staff will be ready to greet you and your student and direct you to the appropriate class. If you are planning to walk your child to his/her class on the first day of school, please do so before 7:30 so classes can begin promptly.
A Few Other Important Updates:
· Parents/guardians are invited to eat lunch with their children, beginning September 5, 2023. We ask that you allow us to have the first few weeks of school to orient our students in cafeteria procedures. We want to be sure our students know where to sit, how to ask for help, where to move through the lunch line, etc. Beginning September 5th, parents wishing to eat with their child(ren) will sign in at the office and obtain a visitor badge. For safety, parents may eat with their child only. Our students will be utilizing all of the seats in the cafeteria; therefore, parent seating for lunch will be located at designated areas outside of the cafeteria, to include outdoor picnic tables. With our limited seating for parents, we ask that you keep this in mind on inclement weather days. In accordance with FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act), videos and photographs of students other than your own are prohibited.
· Student check-out must be completed prior to 3:00 p.m. (except in cases of emergency).
· Transportation changes must be received by the student’s teacher no later than 3:00 p.m. on the day of the requested change. This change must be written and signed or emailed to the teacher or front office receptionist. The front office will no longer accept phone calls to arrange for changes to transportation.
Finally, I want to welcome you once again to a great year ahead! Please never hesitate to contact the office with any questions you may have. It is an honor to serve LVISD, and more importantly, your child as he/she continues moving toward academic and future success! I look forward to seeing your child soon!
Sincerely,
Brandi Hanselka
