Weekly Update - May 5, 2022

Today was an amazing Professional Development day for our team! We all got together in one place, enjoyed some delicious tacos for lunch, and covered some awesome topics:

• Leigh Harter, SLP talked to our team about what speech and language pathology is and how we can incorporate even more language into our days with our kids
• Jessica and Lindsay organized an excellent practice on teaching all of our kids how to ask for what they want, with a great variety of items and across all levels of skill
• Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee shared ideas with our team to begin updating our diversity statement to accurately reflect our team and our families' needs

Your trusty newsletter editor forgot to report the leaves acquired in March! So, here they are:

In March, our learners acquired a total of 150 new skills!

In April, our learners acquired a total of 144 new skills!

March's total is the highest for 2022 so far.

We are so proud of these amazing kids!

Please join us in congratulating Alyssa and Megan on their recent graduations! We are so proud of all their hard work and so happy to be able to celebrate them both!

We just want to remind families to look ahead at the summer calendar and begin informing us of planned vacations, especially around the various holidays. Our staff like to take a long weekend here and there too, and it's easier to plan those days when we know if a child will be absent.

Here are some dates that the centers will be closed this summer:

Monday, May 30th Memorial Day

Monday, September 5th Labor Day

If your family is planning a longer absence around one of those dates, or at another time, please let us know as soon as you are able!

We have missed a few opportunities to celebrate our caregivers, but we are making a schedule for the rest of the year in order to make sure we don't miss one again!

Caregiver Appreciation times are generally the third Friday of the month and will rotate between drop off and end of day pick up times.

In Brighton, families can go to the Coffee Beanery and your first drink is on us – just tell them you’re with Strive!

In Burton, families can go to Garrett’s Place (the building on the back of the property) and you’ll find coffee and treats!

Any caregiver is welcome – this is an opportunity for us to show our appreciation for you and for caregivers to meet each other with no pressure.

VIP Days are scheduled once per quarter. This is a day for your child to choose a VIP to invite to Strive. A sign up genius link will be shared with families when each date approaches. We ask parents to sign up for either a drop off or pick up time, and we will split the number of spots available to make it less overwhelming for the children. Our plan for the event is for VIPs to come into the center and get a tour from the child assisted by their technician. VIPs will make a craft with the child and technician and enjoy a snack together.

Our hope with this event is to give additional caregivers and family members a sneak peek into what their loved one spends so much time doing at Strive Center for Autism!
