Field Flash
September 1, 2023
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
Thank you so much for joining us on Wednesday night at our Parent Night! Our teachers love to partner with our families, so we are glad to connect with you all in person. It was also wonderful to see so many families enjoying the PTO Back to School Bash last night. Thank you to Megan Roberts for spearheading that event, and thank you to all the parent volunteers.
A few reminders:
- We do not have school on Monday - enjoy the three-day weekend!
- Please follow the rules of the road when driving for drop off - our school is in a neighborhood and we want to be sure we are being good neighbors with our parking and driving!
- Please no dogs on school property at drop off or pick up! Thank you!
- Please be sure you call the main office as early in the day as possible if your child is not taking the bus home.
As we start the year, I'd like to share a few resources that you may find helpful in supporting your children with the start of the school year.
- Elementary Parents Make a Difference newsletter
- How to Help your Child Make New Friends article
- Confidence Boosting lunchbox notes
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman

School Safety Week
During the week of September 11th, our students will be practicing our emergency drills (fire, bus evacuation, tornado, and lockdown). Schools are required to practice these drills, and they will be conducted using age-appropriate language. For the bus evacuation practice, all students will load on to a parked school bus and practice safely exiting through the emergency exit in the back. For the fire drill, we will sound the fire alarm and practice exiting the school building. On the day of the drill, we let students know when to expect the alarm to sound, and help students who may be more sensitive to noise move quickly outside. For our tornado drill, classroom teachers will guide students into the hallway and have students practice the tornado protection position.
We will also practice a lockdown drill, to be observed by the police department. This drill addresses and evaluates the preparedness of school personnel and students for situations where there is an active threat or an active shooter within a school building.
Please be assured that the lockdown drill does not include any simulations that mimic an actual school shooting incident. The lockdown drill is announced in advance to all school personnel and students before it begins. This year’s lockdown drill will take place on Thursday, September 14th. If you do not want your child to participate in the lockdown drill, please complete this Opt-out Request Form by Friday, September 8th. If your child is exempted from the drill, we will provide your child with alternate instruction related to an active threat or active shooter event.

Donate New or Gently Used Sneakers!
Please join us in supporting The Harbour, a Park Ridge based non-profit that provides immediate, stable, and safe housing to youth and young mothers experiencing homelessness. We’re supporting The Great Sneaker Sweep fundraiser which is a fun and easy way to give. The Great Sneaker Sweep entails collecting nearly new or gently used sneakers that can be sent to GotSneakers in return for cash that goes to The Harbour. GotSneakers then sells the gently used sneakers in underprivileged communities overseas to folks who can’t afford to buy new sneakers.
You can find out more about The Great Sneaker Sweep and The Harbour, or donate directly here: https://harbour.app.neoncrm.com/sneakersweep.
