Career Info and Opportunities~Methacton Students & Families
Summer is a great time to get work-based experience!
In addtion to work, there are many summer opportunities for high school students. As summer is right around the corner, hopefully students have checked out opportunities communicated to them through announcements, emails, and posters.
What about students in the elementary and middle school years? They are too young for employment and many of the career programs available to older students. What a great time for them to volunteer to help others, create their own business, or have a yard sale and manage the advertising and money. On family vacations point out the many careers in Hospitality and Tourism. Many activities can be connected to careers and as families and educators, we can help students link learning, interests and experiences to a future career.
Summer camps often provide career related opportunities such as STEM camps. Here is a link to summer camps at Montgomery County Community College. Libraries are also a great source for summer programs. Did you know that local Microsoft stores hold many free student workshops all year long? They hold STEM workshops and even help with earning Girl Scout badges!
Keep in mind that career exploration is a time to find out not only what you want to do, but what you don't want to do. Any experiences with the the world of work help students deepen their understanding of themselves and what career path may be best for them.
