Principal Principles
Attendance Awareness Month
DHS Parents:
September has been designated School Attendance Awareness Month. Research indicates that students suffer academically if they miss 10% of of the school year or about 18 days. That can be just one day every two weeks, and that can happen before you know it. Some absences are unavoidable. We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible.
At DHS we have implemented some early intervention measures. First of all, parents should receive a robo call if your child is absent. In addition, myself and the assistant principals will make personal phone calls to students that have missed multiple days of school. Chronic absences is an early warning sign that a student will drop out. We want to see all of our students graduate on time.
We appreciate your help and are thankful for a community that works together for the success of our students.
