Exemptions reminders

If you plan on exempting your classes for semester finals remember the criteria for eligibility is passing at semester with an 80 and not having more than 3 absences. 3 tardies = 1 absence.
Students will only be allowed to exempt 3 classes. Use your picks wisely!

Dodge ball tournament underway!

The NGC Student Leadership class sponsored a Dodgeball Tournament this past week. Eleven teams were involved. The winners of the brackets were The Slayers and The Alpha Males. The Alpha Males team consists of Noah Ramsey, Mason James, Collin Williams, Jake Seglum, Jorden Wheeler and Cayde Taylor. The Slayers are Parkey Spivey, Zeke Baker, Carlos Olivares, Jerry Herringer, Josh Kerfoot and Frank Loya. These teams will play Thursday, 12/15, in a championship game. The winner of this game will play the teachers.

Counseling Corner

The end of the semester is upon us, and our counselors would like to share a few pieces of information with you. The end of the semester is the time when credit is earned for a course. To earn credit, a student must have an overall average of 70 or better for the first three six weeks of the year. If a student does not earn credit, the student will have to take the course again. For many students, this outcome is the first time they will face such a loss and consequence. Please encourage your student to take care of their classes and to earn their average of 70 or better.

In addition, grade point average, GPA, and class rank will be calculated for this first time based on first semester averages. The class rank and GPA will become visible sometime in February for the first time. Thereafter, each will update each successive semester until graduation.

To calculate GPA, a student must take their grade and convert it to the GPA scale. Regular classes are scored on a 4.5 scale, and PAP classes are scored on a 5.0 scale. The conversion of scores is posted below.

You add the scaled score for each class to get a sum total and divide the total by 8 classes for the GPA for Semester One.
