Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
I hope everyone had a relaxing spring break and is ready to finish the year strong. Please remind students how important it is to be engaged in their schooling during these next few months. Being engaged means being here and being prepared to learn.
Spring is always a busy time of year as we enjoy spring sports as well as end of the year festivities and plan for the year to come. It was wonderful to see so many Incoming Freshmen students and their families this past week at their forecasting night. Counselors and administrators will be visiting BPMS and 91 next week to finish up that process so we can begin planning our master schedule for next year. Please see the appropriate section below for more information.
Over spring break, our band students had the opportunity to perform at Disneyland. Over a hundred students traveled to Southern California, enjoyed the park, and dazzled the crowd with their musical skills. Also, during the break, construction was in full swing as they took advantage of the empty building to advance much of the bond work, including replacing HVAC systems. We are continually grateful for the community support of the 2020 Bond and are looking forward to the opening of the new wing next fall.
Finally, we will be practicing a Lockdown Drill tomorrow morning, April 7th. It is a required drill, and student safety is our top priority. We understand that this practice could be triggering for some students. If your student needs any extra support that day, please encourage them to check-in with their School Counselor.
Have an amazing week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Health Curriculum Adoption Parent Input Opportunity
The Canby School District will host a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, April 19 from 6-7 p.m. in English and 7-8 p.m. in Spanish. The goal is to have 12-15 parents answer some questions and provide input about health education and instruction in Canby. We will use this information to support our planning for our Health Curriculum adoption and Parent Open House on April 26. If you are interested, please complete this Google Form. If we have great interest, we will choose participants by lottery to create a small enough group for our input session.
Water Testing
Canby School District has completed its first cycle of lead and copper water testing, and all fixtures came in under the state requirement of 15 parts per million. We collected samples from Ackerman, the district office and maintenance shop, Baker Prairie Middle School, and Canby High School. All fixtures were tested as long as a student could cup their hands under it to collect water.
Those interested can view the reports here: HASS Healthy and Safe School Reports.
Testing will take place in the 2023-2024 year for the remaining schools: Carus, Eccles, Knight, Lee, Ninety-One, and Trost.
For questions, please reach out to Shawna Grant, District Operation Specialists with Facilities, at sgrant@canby.k12.or.us or 503-266-0018 xt. 3920.
Library Book Review
The Canby School District continues to offer opportunities for community members to review library books that are up for consideration to be added into circulation. Books will be displayed on Monday, April 10 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Ackerman Library. To find a list of the titles for review and our review template, you can visit our CSD library page.
Athletics and Activities
The CHS Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs are holding a town hall event. Please see the flier for details.
Incoming Freshman Football Signing Event
April 11th & 13th
4:00 – 5:30 (Both days, only need to attend one day)
Location Canby High School Cafeteria
All incoming freshmen families, who have an athlete interested in playing football in the fall are invited to “Canby Footballs Freshmen Signing Event.” This year’s events will be held in the Canby High School cafeteria from 4:00 till 5:30 on both Tuesday and Thursday. Come and get some snacks, some swag and Learn about the program, meet the coaches and some current players and get all the forms, schedules and information you will need to be up to date with all things Canby Football! If you are unable to attend one of the events, but would like information please contact coach Joyce. Email: jimmy.joyce@canby.k12.or.us
Thank you for being patient with our construction out on the stadium. We’re currently undergoing seismic upgrades as part of the 2020 Bond and the work has taken longer than expected. This has interrupted both lacrosse and track, and we appreciate your understanding as we continue the work.
Schedules:
We have all of our athletics schedule all in one place on our master athletic schedule. This includes game times, locations, and bus departure times. It is updated real-time by your athletic department. Go to this link to see the current schedule, which is subject to change with little notice. Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
Information for Seniors
The Senior Schedule is linked on the “Graduation Information” page. Please check back often for updates. Again, seniors need to watch their emails for graduation information and updates. If you have additional questions not found in the information pages, please contact Jamie Netter @ jamie.netter@canby.k12.or.us or 503.263.7200 Ext 5302.
