Happy New Year!
I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to our Nike Family! I trust you had a wonderful winter break with family and friends. As we ring in the New Year it is an exciting time to reflect on our accomplishments and review goals for what we have left to do in this school year. Can you believe that we are halfway through this school year? Where did the time go? The work that is required of the school, the teachers, the students and their families has increased significantly during these past few years.
Finally, on behalf of Nike’s faculty and staff, thank you for your continued support of our students and the work we do for them. It is truly the community, parents, and staff partnering and working together that allows us to maintain the successes we have so long enjoyed here at Nike! As always, if you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact a teacher or me directly. We are here to work together to provide the best possible education for your student!
I wanted to share the Nike Scout’s Daily Pledge. Students recite this every morning.
Today I will be a good role model and team player.
I will be a clever problem solver who is kind, open and honest.
I will be in control of myself and keep trying when things get tough.
I AM a Nike Scout.
I hope that each and every family has a wonderful holiday season shared with family and friends.

Go Scouts!
From Ms. Raeker
Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed winter break. This month we will be working on student goal setting to improve their success at school. I am excited to teach these skills to our students as I feel they are important life skills and will benefit them both now and in the future. As we return to school, please keep in mind that students should bring a coat to school during the colder weather. If your child needs a coat, hat, or gloves, please reach out to me. I have some available in various sizes for those who need them. I am excited to see your students back at school!
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From Nurse Jamie
Welcome back Nike Scouts! For those of you who don't know, I will be spending the rest of the school year on maternity leave, caring for my new baby at home! My office will be covered by Betty Markus while I am out on maternity leave. She has many years of nursing experience and has subbed in my office before. So, the kiddos will recognize her, and you can trust that your children are still in good hands.
I want to thank each and every family that participated in my baby shower. It was such a surprise and I'm pretty sure the kiddos loved it just as much as I did! I am very grateful for my extended Nike family!
Thank you,
Nurse Jamie
MUSIC
Third and Fourth grades are preparing a performance entitled "It's Showtime!" on March 16 at 6 p.m.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Pre K artists turned one of their projects into a gift they wrapped themselves!
First grade artists created elves and used bingo markers during centers the last time they had art.
Second grade artists learned about value (the lightness or darkness of a color) and made a winter landscape.
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Library
Happy New Year! January is the time when we make goals. We are going to start a whole school reading challenge - "Million Minutes of Reading". The entire school is going to track their reading minutes and the goal is to read a million minutes. The goal is to increase our reading stamina, which is the amount of time we read and to complete the books we read. As a school we will be tracking our minutes.
The district has two online subscriptions that have home online access. One of the products is TrueFlix, which is one of my favorites to use. TrueFlix is intended for students in third grade and up and is a digital version of nonfiction books. The books are organized by Science or Social Studies topics and with each book there is extra information. The username for TrueFlix is nmvr and the password is trueflix
The other subscription that is excellent for home access is BookFlix. BookFlix is for students PreK - third grade. BookFlix pairs a picture book with an easy nonfiction book. The username and password for BookFlix is the same as TrueFlix.
PE
Welcome back to the second half of our school year!
For 3rd & 4th grade students, intramurals will be starting in February. Keep an eye out in your child's Thursday folders for information regarding this.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out and email me at dmissey@mvr3.k12.mo.us
Title Reading
Mrs. Hollstein's class practices reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is so important to read at home for 20 minutes daily. At the end of this month, we will have a big celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading. Attached you will find some information about what you can do at home for your child to be successful in reading.

PTO Spotlight
Happy New Year! PTO had an amazing Snowball with Santa event in December. Thank you to all who attended and donated. We couldn't put on events and pour into the school and our students without parent participation.
Mark your calendar for another fun event-- The Princess Ball (5:30-6:15pm) and Boy Bash (6:30-7:15pm) are on February 10 this year. Look for more info on a flyer coming soon!
We are excited to share plans for using some PTO funds to install an Octoball court this Spring. More info coming soon and contact Ellen at ellenhughes314@gmail.com if you are interested in donating skills, time, or materials for this. Octoball, or Gaga ball, is played in an octagon shaped enclosure, also known as a gaga pit. The more players, the better! It is played with a soft foam ball and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the waist or knees. It is a safe, inclusive, easy-to-learn way to provide engaging physical activity for kids of any age and athletic ability.
