3rd Quarter 2023-2024
Art
Kindergarten- We will be working on colors and mixing primary colors to get secondary colors. We will learn about key vocabulary. We will start by making color changing birds.
1st Grade- We will be learning about artists such as Jackson Pollock and how there are all different kinds of art. Some kinds are non-representational. I will be encouraging students to work on projects with different mediums and using tools that are not specifically made for art.
2nd Grade- We are finishing out mixed media monsters, then we will move on to experimenting with different kinds of paints and mediums to make collages.
3rd Grade- We will be finishing our ceramic projects and moving onto pop art. Students will print photos to use as guides and we will talk about using minimal line and patterns to make pop art portraits.
4th grade- We are wrapping up our mixed media cityscapes and then we will move on to pinch pot fish or creatures. We will talk about proper joining techniques and how to use texture to show detail in their sculptures.
5th grade- We are working on different watercolor techniques this quarter along with how to use life like scale.
Computers
Kindergarten- This quarter we will continue working on finding the ABC’s on the keyboard. The students will be learning about icons and how to select different ones for an intended outcome. They will also start learning about google classroom and how to find their assignment in google classroom.
1st and 2nd grade- We are going to start the third quarter working on building and typing sight words.These assignments are in google slides. The students are learning how to navigate google slides, practicing their classroom sight words, finding letters on their keyboards, and using their trackpad to drag and drop the letters! They are really enjoying this activity and I love how many skills they are able to work on all at the same time! The students are going to be introduced to google docs this quarter as well. They will have the opportunity to type a letter to someone of their choice! First and second graders will continue to work on their typing program throughout the quarter.
3rd grade- In third grade the students are comparing past and present technology this quarter. We will be focusing on how much technology has changed and some of the benefits we all have experienced due to technological advancements. We will continue to work on typing and proper typing techniques. Later in the quarter we will start using google sheets to collect and organize data. We will end the third quarter learning about coding! This should be a fun and exciting unit for the students!
4th grade- Before winter break the students were creating a shopping list in google sheets. We will continue working on this shopping list to find the total of their items and begin creating graphs to show where everyone shopped. This will give the students the opportunity to collect, organize and display their data in a graph! The students will continue working on their typing program and practicing proper typing techniques. Before the end of the quarter we will start our unit on coding! The students are familiar with coding from previous years so this should be a fun unit!
5th grade- 5th grade will start on their PacMan game at the beginning of 3rd quarter! The 5th grade classes have had a lot of fun coding and making games!
Guidance
Character Education words for 3rd quarter are:

Parkview
In Guidance 3rd quarter, K-2 students will spend the first 1st week reviewing the topic of emotions and coping skills. The students will do an activity where they identify coping skills he/she would like to try when experiencing big emotions.
The next several weeks of 3rd quarter in Guidance, students will hear me read a few books, get to do activities/crafts, and the students will also get to work together in centers, all while exploring the topic of feelings/emotions.
The students will spend the end of 3rd quarter in Guidance learning and exploring the topics of friendship and kindness.
Cameron Intermediate School
3rd Grade- Students will be learning how to show compassion, manage test anxiety, manage disappointment and do some career exploration.
4th Grade- Students will be learning how to show compassion, manage strong feelings, manage calming down when angry and anxious and do some career exploration.
5th Grade- Students will learn how to manage anxiety and frustration, how to handle put-downs, and do some career exploration.
Library
Parkview
During library class at Parkivew, nonfiction will have the spotlight during 3rd Quarter. Out lil' dragons will be learning about the elements of nonfiction books and the inquiry process. Together we'll practice how to develop questions and use the resources available in our library to answer those questions, all while experiencing and learning about the unique characteristics of nonfiction books and resources. And, of course, we'll enjoy reading some delightful stories together along the way!
Cameron Intermediate School
C.I.S. Library Update- Congrats to all of our readers at C.I.S.! We are proud to announce that everyone read new types of literature to grow their schema and enjoyed an ice cream treat for their hard work on their book bingo!
-3rd Quarter Learning- We will begin our research unit this quarter by engaging in safe practices when researching topics. Each grade level will be researching topics that connect to the learning they are doing within their grade level subjects to better support their overall comprehension. Learning objectives include: I can identify the best types of sources to use for different needs. I can explain the importance of copyright, fair use, and trademark. I can ethically use others’ work. I can show my new learning by sharing with our global community.
-2nd Semester Reading Challenge: READ YOUR HEART OUT!- This semester we will have different options of challenges for students to complete. Once they complete the challenge page of their choice, they will get to enter a ticket into the grand prize drawing for small prizes. We will be filling our reading bulletin board with as many hearts as we can to show our LOVE for reading. These challenge pages will be available during library class and on the library google classroom. I'm excited to see our students continue to grow their love for reading!
Music
Kindergarten- We are learning all about how to sing and practicing singing the right way. We will also be listening to music and picking out songs that are patterns of 2, 3, and 4.
1st Grade- We are learning all about what music looks like when it's written down. We will also explore how melodies make songs, and go higher and lower.
2nd Grade- We are learning all about melody. Melodies that go up and down and how they are put together to make songs. We are then going to be exploring the Baroque Period. Learning all about music and composers from this time period.
3rd Grade- We will be studying the Classical Period. We will learn all about composers and music from this time period. Our second unit will be over notes and rests. We will learn all about what they look like and how to write them in music.
4th Grade- Students will be doing two units. One on Duration where we will cover all types of notes including new ones such as dotted quarter notes and tied notes. Our second unit is on notation. We will be looking at pieces of music and learning what different musical notations mean.
5th Grade- I am excited to jump into third quarter with our 5 th graders as we continue to build the foundations of music. This quarter will focus on the instruments of the orchestra, chords and harmony, and composition. At the end of the quarter, our high school and middle school band directors will speak to our 5th graders about band and the opportunity our students have to join band in 6th grade. This will be an exciting time for them. I have enjoyed getting to know this awesome group of students and look forward to a great semester.
Physical Education
K-2 Students will be working on soccer skills and dancing.
-basic soccer terminology and skills (toe taps, rolling the ball, dribble and pass)
-moving in personal space to rhythm
-following teacher directed dances
-combining locomotor skills to rhythm
3rd and 4th grade students will be working on the finishing our basketball unit with shooting, soccer skills, and starting our floor hockey unit
-learning how to shoot a basketball
-dribbling, passing, and shooting for soccer
-how to hold a hockey stick correctly
-moving a ball using a hockey stick
5th grade students will be working on throwing a frisbee with correct form in order to play ultimate frisbee and other small sided games. Students will also learn the skills and rules to pickleball and other small sided games to go along with it.
