A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL
Dear BMS Warriors, Staff, and Families:
With week one of Distance Learning under our belt, we are all breathing a little easier. Thank you for your patience as we worked out the kinks and did a lot of troubleshooting this past week. I enjoyed popping into the Google Classrooms and seeing students engaged in orientation and getting to know you activities. I truly miss seeing our students and teachers in the building and hope we will soon be together again under one roof.
Teachers are ready to begin to tackle their subject Standards of Learning next week. Their weekly lesson plans can be accessed in the Learning Hub each Monday morning. This will help families know what topic or skill is being discussed, what class activities are to take place, and what assignments are due.
We ask for your continued understanding and patience as we change the way we do every part of our work. Thank you for working with us. Feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I’d love to hear from you. sbsmith@spotsylvania.k12.va.us
Sincerely,
Dr. Sheila Smith
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”
Abraham Lincoln
We have just completed our first week of the 2020-21 school year! Though how we would traditionally determine or define success is different, there are many indications that our schools experienced a strong start to an unprecedented year. There are a number of really positive signs that I want to acknowledge from a division perspective.
Though we are set to begin new instruction and learning experiences this week, this past week our schools executed personalized in-person and virtual orientations at all levels. In addition, over 10,000 instructional devices have been distributed, along with many essential materials to support distance learning experiences. As we have shared many times, in a challenging and less than ideal environment, we are striving to identify the opportunities to enhance the services we provide in the best interest of our students and families. Feedback we have been receiving would certainly support consideration of more extended and individualized engagement with families as a foundation to begin every school year!
Lastly, I cannot thank our parents and community enough for working with each school. As I have visited each school throughout the week, there is a real sense of positivity and unified purpose. I thank you for giving us the opportunity to lead, learn, and serve our hearts out for your children! Though we know that every day we will need to continue adjusting and improving, I am very proud of our school teachers, leaders, and support staff for their efforts in getting off to a positive start.
Moving forward, together, we will continue to strive to create a future we desire for our students, staff, and community!
Have a wonderful week!
Dr. S. Scott Baker

MEET YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Mrs. Michelle Germeroth - 6th Grade Counselor and School Counseling Director
This is my fourth year at Battlefield Middle School and I am excited to be working here as a Warrior! I have 20 years of experience as a School Counselor and teacher from Caroline County Public Schools and Richmond City Public Schools. I enjoy working with all students to help them be successful not only in the classroom, but outside in the community as well. Here at Battlefield I will be working with students during Classroom Guidance lessons, individual counseling sessions, and also small group sessions. I have two children, two dogs, and a turtle who keep me busy when I am not at school. Please contact me any time if you have a question or concern about your child. I am here to help! My email is mgermeroth@spotsylvania.k12.va.us.
