Letter From Ms. Brito
Dear Washington Family,
I hope everyone is having a good week!
We are excited to announce the reintroduction of our Positive Behavior Interventions Program (PBIS) at Washington! We started passing out Paws on Monday, and we truly believe this program will positively impact our student's growth and development.
The PBIS program is designed to create a more supportive and inclusive school environment by promoting positive behaviors and social-emotional learning among our students. We firmly believe that fostering a positive school culture enhances academic success and helps students develop essential life skills.
Here's an overview of what the PBIS program entails:
Recognition of Positive Behaviors: Students will be acknowledged and rewarded for demonstrating positive behaviors such as kindness, respect, responsibility, and empathy towards others.
Conflict Resolution: The program will teach students effective conflict resolution strategies, promoting a peaceful and respectful school environment.
Student Engagement: We aim to actively involve students in decision-making processes related to school activities, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.
Community Building: We will organize events and activities promoting community and unity among students, teachers, and parents.
We encourage your active participation in the PBIs program by reinforcing these positive behaviors at home and engaging in open discussions with your child about their experiences at school. We firmly believe that a collaborative effort between the school and parents will significantly impact our students' development.
If you have any questions or want more information about the PBIs program, please reach out. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in nurturing the growth and well-being of our students.
Warm Regards,
Angie

"Book Break" Comes to Washington
Hello Washington Families!
We are off to an exciting start here in the LRC. This year Washington is taking part in a program called Book Break which brings our students at least one livestream author visit per month. We just wrapped up our first visit with author Peter H. Reynolds. He is the author and illustrator of many well known picture books including The Dot, Ish, and The Word Collector. Students enjoyed listening to Peter talk about what inspires his writing and drawing along with him. We are looking forward to other visits this year from other popular authors including Kate DiCamillo and Jeff Kinney.
Happy Reading Everyone!

D64 Primary Challenge Program
Primary Challenge is an enrichment program of services for students from kindergarten through 2nd grade with advanced learning needs in the specific academic areas of reading and math. The program is designed to use a flexible identification process and provide services as students demonstrate need. Our primary challenge teachers just completed the first identification round for Grades 1 and 2. If your student qualifies, families will receive a permission form. The program is intended to be flexible and fluid and students may move in and out of the program through the year. This also means students may qualify one year but not the next. This is to be expected as the academic needs of students in the primary grades can change frequently. Kindergarten evaluations will begin in mid-October and families will be notified in November. The remaining timeline can be found on our PC calendar. If you would like to learn more about the program, please visit the website or view this short video. Our Primary Challenge FAQ will be able to answer any other questions that you may have about testing, qualifying, and identification for Primary Challenge.
