Sherwood School District Emergency Information

Winter has arrived! Please be sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. We ask that you do not drop your child off before 7:30, as they are not able to enter the building until that time.

Please visit our website for more information on inclement weather closures or other emergency notifications.

Last Week for Hawks View Elementary Food Drive

Our Food Drive kicked off Tuesday, November 29th, and runs through Friday, December 9th. Will we beat last year’s record breaking food drive? We collected 5,989 items in 2021. What can Hawks View Hawks do in 2022? Check the flyer for fun prizes and happenings during the drive.

Only nonperishable items please. All food donated will be distributed by the Sherwood Elks and will stay in the Sherwood area. Let’s work together as a Hawks View Community to make a difference!

Attendance

Strong attendance remains one of our district goals. Letters recently went home for most students who were below 90% attendance at this point in the year. While we are aware that several illnesses are present in our community, we do not know the situation for every family. There are numerous reasons for students to be absent and no matter the reasons, we know that absences affect learning. Please know those letters are part of our process in communicating attendance rates with families. We appreciate families that keep sick kids home and those who communicate absences with us. For any of our families who could use support with attendance, we are always here to help.

Hawks View PAC Updates

PAC Meeting - 12/8 at 9:00am. All are welcome! Please join us to discuss PAC business and hear reports regarding activities happening throughout the school. All who attend are welcome to participate and vote.

Have you visited the PAC website yet? Check out the Hospitality page for Staff Members' Favorite Things Lists and Amazon Wish Lists. Visit the Apparel page to link to the online apparel store for HV gear! Lots more info can be found on the site.

Any questions or interested in getting involved? Please email: president@hawksviewpac.org

Lost and Found

Please be sure to have your student check the lost and found for missing jackets, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, etc. All unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity over winter break.

Update from the Health Services Department

Oregon is experiencing high levels of respiratory viruses -- especially in children -- which include RSV, influenza, colds and COVID-19. In addition, schools in our district have seen an increase in absences recently, with a significant number of families reporting student illness as the cause for those absences.

Respiratory viruses can spread rapidly, so it is important for students who are sick to stay home when they have the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 or greater

  • New or worsening cough

  • Vomiting and diarrhea

  • Headache with stiff neck or fever

  • New instance of difficulty breathing which is not due to a medical condition (ie; asthma)

If you have questions about when your child can return to school after an illness, please contact our office or call Health Services at 503-825-5088 for assistance.

In addition to staying home when ill, ways to combat the spread of respiratory viruses include frequent hand washing/sanitizing, disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces, covering coughs and sneezes (using tissue or the inside of your elbow), and avoiding sharing cups/water bottles/food or drinks.

For more information on respiratory viruses and other illnesses causing outbreaks in Oregon schools (such as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease), please visit the Health Services website at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/departments/health-services/resources.

Transportation Department Updates

  • Snow Routes are posted on our Transportation Department page and can be found here. When Snow Routes are activated, service will be limited on all routes except for 1, 8, 9, 12, 14, and 18, which will not be affected. For all other routes, please review if your stop will be impacted during an inclement weather event.

  • After Thanksgiving break, rural routes will service all grade levels together in order to improve the arrival time to our secondary schools. All route changes will be reflected in the Ride 360 app on Tuesday, November 22nd and will take effect on Monday, November 28th. Regardless of whether or not you live in a rural area, check the Ride 360 app because your bus stop time may change. If you do not have the Ride 360 app, you can find directions on how to install the app and register your student(s) at the link below. You will need your student(s) ID number(s) and the birthdate(s) must be entered in the following format MM/DD/YYYY.
