PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT GOES VIRTUAL
We have lots of great things happening this year! Instead of hosting our annual in-person Parent Information Night in each cluster, we decided to bring this to you virtually this year. We encourage our families to watch this video as Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck highlights a number of projects, programs and initiatives taking place throughout the district.
DISTRICT LAUNCHES NEW VIDEO SERIES
We have launched a new educational resource video series this year to assist our families with their child’s learning. In our “Better Together” series, we will share tips, strategies and resources on how families can work with their children outside of the classroom. We are sharing the videos on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) as well our “Cheatham County School District” YouTube channel and district website. To watch all of our videos, click here.

ROCKET CAMP WILL BLAST OFF OCT. 23
We are hosting our first STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) event on Saturday, Oct. 23. Check out the flyer for additional information. To register your child, click here.
ATTENTION BAG LUNCH STUDENTS!
Families, if your child brings a lunch from home, there's still an opportunity for them to eat free with us. If your child prefers to bring their favorite main entree/sandwich from home, they can pick 3-4 items from our serving line and all are free. This must include one fruit, one vegetable and one milk. As a reminder, all students are receiving free breakfast and lunch this year.
DISTRICT CREATES EDUCATION HALL OF FAME
We are excited about our new Cheatham County Education Hall of Fame! Twelve distinguished Cheatham County educators will be inducted into the inaugural class during a special program on Thursday, Oct. 21 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Cheatham County Central High School theatre. The public is invited to attend. To read more about the Hall of Fame, this year’s inductees and how to nominate an individual for future classes, click here.
HALLOWEEN BOOK WALK IS OCT. 16
The Cheatham County Literacy Council will host its next Book Walk on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ashland City Walking Track, 100 Preacher Lane (by Midway Supply). This month’s book is “Hallo-weiner.” Children who attend are invited to wear a Halloween costume to the Book Walk as this will also be a trick or treat event. All families are invited to attend this free event.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE NOV. 1
The Cheatham County School District will hold Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday, Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meetings will be scheduled throughout the day, and they will be either in-person or virtually. Each school will notify their families on how they can sign up or attend a meeting so please watch for that communication. There will be no school for students on this day.
AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION OFFERS WEBINAR
The American Heart Association-Southeast invites families to join a free webinar on Oct. 27 to learn how to be your child’s best advocate in school. Lorilynn Bowie, EdD, an expert working in the school system, will be on the webinar to explain when, why and how to get involved in creating the best school environment for your child. Special needs, education plans and meetings at the school are just a few important discoveries you can make in shaping your child’s learning experiences. To register for the webinar, click here.
TENNESSEE PROMISE DEADLINE NEARS
Parents and students, the clock is ticking to apply for the Tennessee Promise program. The scholarship deadline is Nov. 1, 2021 for the seniors of the class of 2022. Tennessee Promise offers two years of community or technical college, tuition-free, to Tennessee high school graduates. To apply, first create a student portal account. Include your first and last name, social security number, date of birth and email address. Second, locate the TN Promise Scholarship, fill in the blanks not populated from the student portal account, select a TN Promise eligible institution and select your high school. Dual enrollment students have already created a student portal account. Sign into your account, locate and complete the TN Promise Scholarship. For more information, click here.
DAYCARE WORKERS NEEDED
We are hiring daycare employees for our before and after school daycare program at our elementary schools. We need full-time site assistants and part-time workers. If you are interested in working for our daycares, please contact Daycare Supervisor Emily Staggs at 615-746-1433 or emily.staggs@ccstn.org.
TIKTOK CHALLENGES WILL HAVE CONSEQUENCES
We are aware of the various social media trends or challenges that students are participating in. Many of them involve activities that are inappropriate or illegal. If we learn of any student participating in these challenges the consequence will be severe. They may also face legal consequences. There is a TikTok challenge for October encouraging students to "smack a school staff member.” This is certainly unacceptable behavior that would warrant disciplinary action and could lead to assault charges. It is unfortunate that some students have chosen to take on these challenges. All are encouraged to behave appropriately and respectfully.
