Winter Parties
Winter parties at Davis/Richmond will be Friday, December 22, 2023.
Classroom parties will run from 2:00 to 2:45 pm
Room Parents arrive and begin party preparation at 1:40pm
Please do not send any food treats with your child to pass out
Party cleanup begins at 2:45pm
Room Parent Guidelines:
No more than 3 room parents per classroom may attend. (Others may assist with preparations outside of school or goody bags). Sign-up for Room Parents was completed through our PTO in September.
Room Parents must complete the D303 volunteer form for this school year 2023-2024. If you have never had your ID/drivers license scanned at the school, it is very helpful to have that done prior to the party. Stop by the office at your convenience.
Lead Room Parents:
Communicate with the classroom teacher & other room parents on activities/games for the party
Coordinate with the teacher & other room parents on any non-edible goody bags to be sent home. No food treats will be eaten during the party or sent home.

News from the Nurse
Facts about this awful cough that appears to be everywhere…
2 types of coughs – Throat caused by postnasal drip and Chest caused by lung inflammation
Starts out as Viral but may be related to Allergies or Asthma
It may or may not be accompanied by fever
Can last up to 6-8 weeks
Cough may present as dry, hacky, seal-like barky (Croup) and persistent
Some suggestions that may help…
Warm Tea with Honey, Lemon or Ginger
Honey by the spoonful
Using humidifiers
Drinking fluids – stay away from carbonated beverages
Saline Nasal sprays
Cough drops – something menthol/not sweet, chewing gum
Warm showers
Gargling with warm salt water or drinking some warm salt water to help dissolve mucus and soothe irritated tissue (Viruses can make airways swell)
Avoid smoke-filled rooms, pollens and a lot of dust
If your child’s cough is persistent to the point they are unavailable for learning and it’s quite disruptive to the rest of the classroom, you will be asked to pick them up.
You should revisit the doctor if fever appears/reappears and cough worsens. Unfortunately, it is expected that some children will repeat this cycle all winter long due to the many viruses that are out there.

THE MOBILE DENTIST IS COMING SOON!!!!!!
Illinois state law requires that all children entering kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade will have an oral health examination. A licensed dentist must perform the dental exam and he/she shall sign and date the report form. Dental offices usually have the form, but the dental exam form can be obtained by clicking here or by contacting your child’s school and requesting a dental exam form or by visiting d303.org website under departments, then Health Services. This exam must be completed within 18 months of May 15, 2024.
In an effort to assist you in completing this oral health exam for your child, the Mobile Dentist will be on site at Davis on Feb. 6th and Richmond on Feb 7th -provided we have enough students for the Mobile Dentist to come. Please consider taking this opportunity of in-school care at little to no cost to you.
- The Mobile Dentist accepts Medicaid and private insurance.
- Self-pay by cash or check for $70 is also available for those without insurance coverage.
- Services provided are cleaning, screening, sealants, and flouride.
- Forms will be sent home and must be completed and signed by parent or guardian. Extra forms are available in the health office or you can click below to download a copy.
- Please return the forms by 1/10/24.
- Sign-up can also be completed online by clicking here: My School Dentist

Lost and Found
Attention parents! Our Lost and Found is overflowing! Check out this video to see for yourself! If your child has lost anything- sweatshirt, jacket, coat, hat, gloves, water bottle, lunch container, snow pants - you name it, we have it! Please have your child take a look before winter break. Thank you!
Recognizing Positive Behavior at Richmond
All of our Richmond classes have earned their first Golden Tiger Head Classroom Celebration. Tiger Heads are a part of our Richmond building-wide positive behavior system. Classrooms earn a Tiger Head by following Richmond's expectations of being respectful, responsible and safe. Golden Tiger Heads are unique because it means that a class has consistently demonstrated that they can follow school expectations and has earned a special reward. Ask your child how they earned and celebrated their first Golden Tiger Head!
In addition to Tiger Paws, students also have an opportunity to be recognized individually with Tiger Buck’s for following Richmond's expectations of being respectful, responsible and safe. Students can choose to spend their Tiger Bucks on various items and experiences with Richmond teachers and staff here. We want to thank our Davis-Richmond PTO for their support of our Tiger Buck monthly raffle through their generous donations or Target gift card, recess equipment and Davis-Richmond Spirit wear.
PE
The PE classes are playing a Tchoukball unit. The game originated in Switzerland and is played similar to team handball. It is a fast paced game where team's score by throwing the ball against a rebound net. If the opposing team doesn't catch the ball off the rebound net the throwing team earns a point. Richmond has also enjoyed using the Railyard Fitness System that is shared with every other elementary school in the district. This equipment consists of several step boxes and large balance beams that can be used in a variety of ways. The students have used it as fitness equipment to step and jump on and over as well as platforms to traverse and balance on. Another way this equipment is used is to add new dimensions to some of our students' favorite games. As PE teachers, we truly enjoy the versatility of this equipment, and the students look forward to using it every year.
Music
In music for December, all grades will be studying the music from The Nutcracker ballet. They will be doing things like using tennis balls, paper plates, and parachutes while listening to the different pieces of this timeless winter work. The students are working hard as a team, and applying the music terms they've learned so far this year.
Kindness Club
The Richmond Kindness Club will be sponsoring a Mitten Drive from November 27 through December 22. Donations will go to Richmond students as well as other local programs in need. If you choose to make a donation, mittens may be dropped off in the Richmond office. Thank you kindness club for spreading kindness to others!
