The 2024-2025 lottery for Charter Schools is now open! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled in Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption. They must be living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Hey CMIT Tiger families, on Wednesday, February 14th during student lunches, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with a DJ, cupcakes and more! Students will be allowed to dress down in colors of pink, white or red. Permission slips have been sent home and will need to be signed and returned to their homeroom teachers as soon as possible. We are still looking for volunteers to help make this event a success!

Kindergarten
Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
Winter is here; please make sure that your scholar is dressed appropriately for the weather for outdoor recess.
ELA: We will be working on rhyming words; and identifying and matching the common sounds that each letter represents. Our sight words are;away, give,little. We will learn how to spell the words and use them in a sentence.
Social Studies: We will learn about neighborhoods and how we keep them safe.We are also incorporating black inventors to celebrate black history month.
Math: We will be working on Topic 10 composing and decomposing numbers up to 10.
Science: We are discussing people’s needs, what we need to survive.
We are finishing up Dibels Testing; and working on completing our DRA’s. Please continue to have your scholars come to school rested and ready.

Hello First Grade Families:
Welcome to the second week in February! Next week the PTO is putting together a special Valentines Day event. If you would like your scholar to participate, please sign and return the permission; due back Monday February 12th.
First grade students will have their second field trip to the Maryland Science Center on February 21st. Permission slips for the field trip went home last week, please sign and return no later than February 14th.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
We had a wonderful time on our field to the Kennedy Center. Thank you parent volunteers, you rock! Next week, we will continue Unit 3, theme Our Traditions. In Math, we will begin Topic 9, Understand Place Value and count by numbers to 1,000. In Science, we will begin topic 4, Earth's Processes. In Social Studies, we will discuss needs, wants, and choices.
We kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness.

In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 4: Lesson 4 Landmarks, symbols and documents.
In Math this week, we are finishing up topic 10, multiplying multiples of 10. The plan is to take our test on Tuesday. Then we're moving on to using operations to solve word problems.
In Science, we are finishing up our topic on climate.

In Reading, students will explore author's purpose in a biography. In Social Studies, we will begin studying the Southeast Region. In Math, students will take their Unit 10 test and begin using line plots and interpret data in line plots to solve problems. In Science, students will continue presenting their STEM Fair projects.
PTO will be sponsoring a school wide event of sharing & caring Valentine's Day party on February 14, 2024 during students lunch and recess time. In order for students to participate in the treats provided they will need a signed permission slip. Permission slips went home during the week. If by chance it did not make it home, the link is shared below. Please have your scholar turn in ASAP.

Fabulous Fifth Grade News!
Our theme for this year is "How would you evaluate the Power of Black People?" This year we will highlight and celebrate Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Each Monday we will honor an HBCU by representing their colors. Next Monday, February 2/12, we will honor Morgan State University by wearing orange and blue. Each scholar will learn about their classroom's assigned HBCU. This will be a fun filled month that will allow each scholar to show forth their creativity and their scholarship!
Black History Month Projects
Students will receive their focus person to study and research for their BHM project. A poster, research paper, and Wax Figure speech is included in the project requirements. The research project will be due February 27th. The Wax figure will be presented on February 28, 2024.

"Sweet like Candy Celebration" on February 14, 2024
Scholars will celebrate a dance and candy treat on February 14th. Permissions slips are required for participation, so please submit them as soon as possible.

Students are continuing to work in Topic 4 Lesson 2. They should be able to describe what makes up the atmosphere and what makes up the hydrosphere.
Math
This week in math, we will use different strategies to divide fractions.
Social Studies
Students will be reading and discussing Chapter 5 Lesson 5: "Winning Independence".
RELA
Scholars will learn a collection of poetry and how stanzas are aligned to rhyme and rhythm. We will migrate to Unit 3 Week 4 after we take the progress check. Happy reading, scholars!

African American History Contest
This project is mandatory for 3rd-5th grade levels, and optional for Kindergarten-2nd grade levels.
Students will be allotted time in their homeroom class and in Art class to work on their projects. They can also work on them at home. Entries must be submitted to Art class by Friday, February 23rd, 2024.
Supplies needed: Please see the rubric.
Art class will supply an (18x24) sheet of paper for 2-dimensional entries.
***Posterboard, cardstock, or presentation board must be supplied by student***

Hi! K is learning about the different ways to play with and categorize percussion instruments! (Hit, Shake, Scrape)
1st & 2nd grade is learning how to sing on pitch.
3rd grade is learning about rounds!

This engaging video-based learning object provides the learner with foundational knowledge about the importance of protecting their personal information. The learner understand that they shouldn't share any personal information online or agree to meet anyone they don’t know and trust; and they should always log off or lock their device to protect their personal information.
3-5 students practiced:Hardware Fundamentals: Scanner
During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using a scanner for images or objects, saving a scanned image as a file, identifying components such as the scanning surface and scanning beam, and understanding how a scanner works.
