Message from the Principals

Dear Falcon Families,

As 2020 begins, there are some big changes in the Nest. Mr. Jenkins has taken an opportunity and will be the new assistant principal at Waynesboro Area High School. While we will certainly miss Mr. Jenkins and his antics in the Nest, we are excited to welcome Mr. Eric DeAngelis to the Nest as our new assistant principal. Mr. DeAngelis comes to us with many years of experience as an assistant principal, including the last 3 at Waynesboro Area Middle School. His specialties definitely include building relationships with learners and families, establishing systems and processes to ensure smooth running of the building, and teaching middle level ELA. We look forward to his expertise as we continue to work to ensure #ItsSTILLaBeautifulDayInTheFVNest!

House Heroes - Ask them WHY!

These learners have been referred to the office for showing one (or more) of our TEAMology foundations. They receive a written referral and a bracelet in the color of their foundation. If you see learners wearing bracelets, ask them WHY they are a house hero. If your child earns a bracelet, encourage him or her to wear it to school each day on their wrist or on their lanyard so they can show everyone what it means to be a House Hero in the Nest!

What's Next in the Nest?

We will be returning to in person learning on 1/4/21 and can't wait to welcome learners back into the Nest!


We have wrapped up our focus on Helping Others like Harper and will be moving on to Paco and Positive Change. As we go through the month, ask your child what color goes with Paco and what positive change means. MANY of learners are working hard to make positive changes even when it's really hard!


At this time, we are still planning to administer PSSAs for 3rd-5th grades in April. If this changes, we will let you know. Please do NOT plan any trips during this time.

TEAMology

Our learners are taught the 6 foundations of TEAMology in lessons each week and throughout their school day. We are hoping to continue to build these foundations and help them see how they all work together to make us #GoodNeighbors and build #6Houses1FVNest. Although COVID has prevented us from mixing groups and truly functioning in our houses so far this year, we are still using our foundations and working to build a better nest, every day!

How can YOU be part of our TEAM?

Teachers are wrapping up reading assessments and beginning to administer middle of the year math and reading assessments to all learners in K-5. Your child's teacher will touch base about what they see and how you can help your learner SOAR!


Winter parties will be held on 1/8/21 due to our virtual days before the holiday break. If you are a room parent, please help by talking to your child's teacher or the PTO directly.

Harper Helps Others!

What is helping others? Helping Others is the ability to service others in school, at home, or in the community. It’s important because it helps increase a student’s self concept, behaviors, and connectedness in school and with each other. Helping one another creates an environment where everyone feels safe, secure, and part of a team. (TEAMology )

Check out the attached Random Acts of Kindness calendar below. February will have Random Acts of Kindness Week sponsored by the school, but this is a great start for ideas you can do at home!

Mrs. McGuire's Monthly Challenge

How can you help others in your community during the new year? Clearing snow from driveways, taking mail to someone's house, walking a neighbor's dog for them...what ideas do YOU have to help our community and show #GoodNeighbors? #WontYouBeMyNeighbor


Write down some ideas or record a short video clip and email them to FVFalconPride@wasdpa.org. We will share some of the responses on our monitors in the school and on our social media pages!
