If you are new to homeschooling, including PE in your curriculum can be challenging. Even though Alaska has many outdoor activities that can be used for PE, there are times when the weather isn't very cooperative and makes it difficult for parents to coax their students outside (or visa-versa!). However there are many different options for training in physical fitness in Alaska. To help with this, here is a list of all of our approved Direct Pay Vendors that we have here a Denali PEAK. These vendors will bill us directly, so you do not have to pay out of pocket first. Just make sure you have enough allotment to cover the costs, and that PE is on your CREW.

Denali Borough School District participates in the E-rate program each year. Our school needs the following information; only one form is needed per family. The E-rate program is a Federal program which provides schools and libraries across the country with substantial discounts on their technology services. This for is also needed to meet federal and state laws for Title I and may be used to qualify for additional grants along with school activities fee determinations. (This table is from the Alaska Income Eligibility Guidelines for Free and Reduced Meals.)
These discounts reduce the costs of our telephone service, internet access, and the internal connections we use to build and maintain the computer networks that link our classrooms. The size of the discounts which we receive is based on the income level of our student’s families. Please take a minute to fill out the survey.

In Wasilla, a group of thespians come together several times a year and put together wonderful world-class productions. This month, they are performing "INTO THE WOODS". James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.

Family Hour is a new opportunity for PEAK families to come together and discuss various aspects of homeschooling. Questions and thoughts about general instruction, activities both in and out of the home, invoices, and reimbursements, as well as grading work and CREW development are some, but not all, topics open for discussion.

Based on the responses to the surveys sent out, Wednesday mornings from 8:30am-9:30am was determined to be the best time for our families to meet via zoom. Below are the dates for the year, and there is one zoom link for all meetings.

Please bring questions, thoughts, and ideas to the group. If there is a specific homeschooling need that cannot be met during this time, or prefer an individual discussion, I would be more than happy to set up a separate time to work with a family.
