From the Classroom...
What's Happening in Mr. Guth's Class?
What's Happening in Mrs. Bobula's Science Classes?
Kindergarten scientists are learning about forces and motion. After some background building using videos, legos and an app, each student was given a set of building materials to use for building a ramp. The goal was to move a ball as far as possible using only the ramp. The creativity and perseverance was amazing! Afterwards the class had a discussion of “what worked and didn’t work.” This reflection is an important part of the engineering process. The students were able to talk about both parts and what they learned from both. I think BES has some future engineers in our midst!
Second-grade scientists are currently learning about rocks and soils. They will be creating poster around the theme “Healthy Soil – Healthy Life,” which will be entered into a contest sponsored by the Wisconsin DPI, National Association of Conservation Districts and Wisconsin Land/Water Conservation. One of the ways they are building their background information is a discussion with Mr. Erickson, our head of Maintenance, who is also a farmer. The students listened to Mr. Erickson share the importance of healthy soil to farming here in Wisconsin, as well as our home lawns and gardens. The students enjoyed seeing Mr. Erickson in a different way and had wonderful discussion about our soil!
Mental Health and the Holidays
Making resolutions with your children or as a family can be a fun time for growth and change, and an opportunity for family bonding! A resolution can include new opportunities or help positive behaviors become a habit. It is also a great way to help children and teens learn about goal setting, which is a lifelong skill. Not sure if you want to do a family New Year's Resolution or individual New Year's Resolutions? No problem...do both! Click the links below to learn more about how to help your child and/or family make and stick to a New Year's Resolution.

In February, Mrs. Franz will be hosting listening sessions with all interested students in grades 4-8 to get their ideas and perspectives for how to continue to grow into our greatness as a school community moving forward. Looking forward to see what we all come up with!
