Irving Elementary

The fourth grade has been talking about the importance of government and why we need it. Mrs. Cook's class is currently working on a mock trial where Alexander Wolf will be put on trial for crimes against the 3 Little Pigs. The class has been split into two teams, the prosecution and the defense teams, and they will be presenting the case next week. The students have had to use teamwork to go through all the evidence and come up with questions for the trial. In the end, a "jury" will decide if Alexander Wolf is guilty of the crime or not.

Irving 4th graders have started a unit on geometry. Students were learning about angles in the pictures below.

Teachers have been focusing on "kindness" with their Capturing Kids Hearts lessons this month. Below is a family handout about kindness.

This year's PTO pizza bingo night will be April 29th from 5-7 at Baden Square. We hope to see all of our families come and enjoy the evening!

Students and staff have been recognizing kind acts this month by adding hearts to our tree when they demonstrate kindness or catch someone being kind.

Every 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Irving artist will have an art masterpiece on display at the District Art Show at Baden Square during the month of March. Please help us celebrate our talents by viewing the display At Arts and Humanities Gallery at Baden Square from 8:30-5:50 Monday thru Thursday and 8:30-5:00 on Friday.

All classes are doing a social-emotional art project titled "Angry Tiger" that deals with ANGER and how to deal with it constructively. Students are learning how lines and color can evoke emotion in art. They will also look at two art pieces by Master Artists to see how they used line and color to evoke emotion in the viewer. Students then look at two photos of a tiger- an angry tiger and a relaxed tiger- and look for "lines" and "colors" in the photos that convey emotion. This will help students identify emotions in people. Younger students will participate in a guided drawing of the angry tiger while older students will do an observational drawing of the angry tiger. Students create a background that demonstrates all the angry emotion felt by the tiger as he releases it to become calm again.

Irving music classes have been busy preparing for their upcoming concerts in March!

The month of March is designated by the National Association for Music Education as ”Music in our Schools Month.” We are planning on having concerts in the high school auditorium on two nights.

Grades 3/4/5 will be held on March 24th, and grades K/1/2 will be held on March 28th.

Please have students wear their school t-shirt with jeans, or something similar to that.

There will be more information out to parents when we get closer to the dates.

It’s been a couple of years since Irving has been able to present concerts and we are really excited and hopeful about these nights!
